I left the Royal Air Force in april after serving for 15 years and have been looking for a job in IT since then. Meanwhile I have been delivering frozen food just to pay the bills.
Today I went for an interview and was offered the job on the spot!
I start on monday and I will be translating Microsoft Office 2007 into French ...get me After that we move onto Adobe Photoshop CS3.
It sounds like a dream job to me, the people there were really laid back, I just hope it's as good as it sounds.
Either way ... it beats delivering frozen food

I think I'm gonna get Photoshop CS 3 in French, I'd be screwed running it as my French knowledge lacks...but hey I'm me.

We used to have a contractor whose previous job was translating Carmaggedon into Japanese. Apparently not as interesting as it sounds...

Sub, it's a small software engineering firm that has the Microsoft and Adobe translating contracts.

Still to come. We get hitched in July next year. The reason it means I can't come to the con this year is because she is giving up work to go to uni next week. So, I will be the only wage earner that can pay for the wedding.

Heh, one of the more humorous IT profession... Linguistic translation. Several years ago I was going to work on the German version of 'You don't know Jack', I do not know German but that is besides the point, I was to be an artist.

Do your best to make an impression, ie 'All your base' or 'File virus not found' hehe. Anyways, Congrats Scraggle Someone with your skill really deserves it.

Thats sh*tty. 15 years serving your country and you had to fall back on a low end blue collar job. Glad everything panned out for you in the end.

Nah, I meant you would think working on Carmaggedon in any coding role would totally rock, but apparently not was quite a boring atmosphere, and converting languages on an awesome game gets a bit tedious when everyone else is testing out power slide and people killing code

Ah, I think I know what you're going to end up doing. You'll have a database with the string lists outlined kind of like excel with the rows and languages, and you'll just translate every single language string in the entire app. Hopefully you don't get eye strain

I did something like this for a game back in the day, and it was tedious to say the least. But at least it's the IT industry Good job!

Actually the bit I am doing is for the manual and help files. I will be capturing screan shots and changing the text in photoshop to French.
