*spoilers in code boxes*

I watched the first season in about a week, and am 8 episodes through season 2. So far I am disappointed by the number of changes in the show.

Firstly

Secondly

Thirdly

I don't know. It's a good show, but after hearing tons of people say it's the best, the new black, the greatest writing, etc., I'm still waiting for that specialness. Anyone else thought it's a little disappointing?

Perhaps I'm too jaded by cable TV shows. The best dramas I've seen so far have been from HBO or other pay-access channels. Favourite is still Six Feet Under.

I found that while I loved series 1 of Lost, the second season just seemed like a victim of it's own success. Part of me thinks someone somewhere said "Oh cack! It's successful! NOW what do we do!?"

Series 1 to me was genuinely intreguing (sp), and I'd look forward to every episode and try to second guess what was happening. Series 2 - I just stopped caring because I can only be teased so much - they strung it out so. Eventually, it was just:
*flat tone of sarcasm* "Oh, wow - so and so knows such and such a person. What a surprise." :/

[edit] And I didn't get into Prison Break at all. Found it very dull - I didn't care for the characters. *shrugs* I've been watching old Brisco County Jnr episodes while I wait for CSI: Vegas to restart.

The first Season of Lost was much cooler then the second. Sorta like the original Matrix and it's slightly desentisised sequel. I still liked the second though, as I had the entire season on DVD, so I'd just skip through the re-cap crap (which is total lameness) and fast-forwarded through the stuff I've already seen.

I just sat down with alot of junk food and watched em one after another and loved em. I hadn't watched/followed a show on TV in years. I just can't stand the cliffhanger crap and the commercials and the sometimes lame endings...I just like seeing it all at once.

Glad to see others agree. I guess all those who said Season 2 was better just have opposite tastes I guess. Oh well, now that I have Season 2 at my place I might as well watch the rest of the episodes anyways

I agree, but with Lost there's no transition or title screen after the recap, like there was in 24. In 24 I just skip by on 32x until the hour text appears. With Lost, the recap has no transition into the new content, so I go back and forth.

Oh well! Like you said, I watch them on DVD anyways hehe.

Did you all catch the links to other TV shows in the first season?

Crap... now I forgot the rest. I swear there were links to 24 and Oz as well.

Also I just found out that the main girl, Evangeline Lilly is from BC, which is cool. She used to be in these "adult singles" commercials that would come on at night here hehe.

So far I'm enjoying Season 2 just as much as Season 1. I don't know what episode we're on in the UK for season 2. Probably about 8 now. Nothing was answered really in the 1st season, but the second is starting to finally explain the others and the Can't Remember The Name Initiative. I personally like the way the feel of the story is evolving from complete mystery . It's also cool how the mentality of the group is changing from fear to strength, but splitting into groups. I feel like the balance between answering old questions and posing new ones is perfect to maintain intreig and also provide enough information to start guessing about answers to the whole thing.

On one hand it feels like they're making the stories up as they go, but on the other hand some of the key plots feel as if they were carefully planned from the beginning:

Are we talking about the same thing? I'd just skip the re-cap episode completly and go on right to the next episode. Are you saying you cannot select individual episodes?

I'm afraid we can't comfort you on your concerns without giving spoilers. In the UK we're at the end of season 2 (3 episodes to go or something). I found the middle of the season a bit dull, but things are picking up again. Now it's very exciting in my opinion.

I don't think ANYONE will claim the script is good. Not ever. In fact, it's pretty damn awful. Good thing they have all this weird supernatural crap in the show really, if it was a standard stuck-on-an-island show it would have failed halfway through the first episode.

You can select episodes, but when I fast forward the recap at the beginning of the episode, I often go too far into the new story, because there's no transitioning. The recap is at the beginning of each episode.

The stoner sounding guy "Previously on Lost", etc.

And I just noticed Lost is also getting a bit offensive toward my beliefs, which I don't want to get into in this forum

EDIT

Okay, just finished episode 9, and that is the best cliffhanger yet when

Now I have to watch the next one of course

Oh, well I was talking about the episodes that were 100% recap. (Yes they exist) where it's just nothing but a re-run from start to finish with a narrator's voice thrown in.

Yeah, that part was complete lameness.

I sometimes think they blew their entire budget on the very first scene were the plane explodes and the debris flies around etc. That's the part they were always talking about in interviews and "the making of". Everything after that was indeed a joke. Tne polar bear looked like a guy dressed in a bear suit that escaped from a local amusment park.

But what can you expect from a TV series...even Smallville, which is apparantly an expensive show has, lame effects.

Channel4 is up to episode 20 and E4 is up to episode 21. I believe there are 3 more episodes to go. Still annoying we have to wait so far after shows are shown in America.

I am watching at E4 pace and things are starting to get really interesting.

Apparantly there may be several more series to go, but surely they will run out of flashbacks as we know most of the main characters past now.

They said that they have enough for eight I believe, but they could also end it at any time if it becomes unpopular.

CG on cable is always terrible. Effects on Xena used to make me nauseous, and it seems that things haven't improved much since. I think that beyond budgetary concerns it's an issue of having to crank it out really fast, as opposed to a movie where big time and money can be dedicated.

I'm very jaded by cable TV. I usually avoid at all cost. Only HBO and Showtime series interest me. That is, except for 24 and Lost. 24 has been phenomenal every season. I enjoyed season 1 of Lost, but I'm really skeptical about it. I can't imagine that when they reveal whatever supernatural thing that is on the island that I won't be completely turned off. Jack Bauer would deal with it.

Iam skipping most of the bull, to say I like Season 2. The new characters are the background actors, that you hardly, or never see in Season 1.

I dont know, Ill watch any thing on TV, I like most things, but if I had to hate one thing, it would be \"Kingdom of Heaven\", that film sucked!

I watch it the day after it's shown in the US, the new season starts in a couple of weeks, and Prison Break is on like episode 4 in it's season 2. I like em both, I like Weeds too, so there's always plenty to download to 'bandage' the usual weeks viewing in the UK.

Seriously, is there anything at all worth watching on UK TV these days?

It depends what you mean by script. The dialogue isn't particularly special, but I personally think Lost, for me at least, is the best TV in years. It's a perfect balance of ingredients for my tastes, and ticks all the right boxes. Most addictive and interesting TV series I have ever watched, no doubt.

Quote: "I sometimes think they blew their entire budget on the very first scene were the plane explodes and the debris flies around etc."

Maybe their preliminary budget, but they've sinse raped our grandmothers for rediculous quantities of cash. They're sitting pretty now, with heafty takings. These shows make more money than hollywood movies.

I haven't been too bothered by the CG to be honest. As long as it isn't shockingly crap, a ropey one with faults is ok by me. We all know it's CG and fake anyway, so all it has to do is suspend your disbelief, and it does it well enough for me.

Quote: "Seriously, is there anything at all worth watching on UK TV these days?"

I won't answer that, cos I'm not a big TV fan. But we have Prison Break and Lost too. All that O.C. crap, and 24. So yeah, we have a diluted, but still good variety of tele. You just have to search for it, and sometimes put up with a few hours of crap. The terrestrial 5 channels isn't enough anymore, as that's been diluted TO HADES by the introduction of all our Freeview channels.

Edit: Ok, looks like I did answer that.

I thought the effects and CG in Firefly were ace - not all tv effects have to be pants.

As for UK telly - only Doctor Who, and we've got until Christmas to wait for our next bit of that. *sighs*

Watch Brainiacs:Test Tube Baby... It shows the recent decline in British TV excellently - a presenter nobodies heard off, a Big Brother contestant, and any Z-lister who's stupid enough to go on a live show with those berks. Brainiacs is fairly good, like Mythbusters, but their Live show just looks cheap and nasty.

There aren't any decent comedy shows either, Still Game is done for another season (6 shows FFS!), there's no Cath Tate, no Little Britain, no Peepshow, no nothing! It's dire, and that's why youtube is taking off so quickly in Britain, people are sick of traditional TV. Things seemed so much better a couple of years ago, we had lots of good shows running.

The best series that HBO have done is "Band of Brothers", that was just amazing.

As for lost series 2, i thought it was alright, bit of a shock on the last episode, but its not the writers who are making the show longer. They have been told its so succesful that they HAVE to write more episodes, they already have an ending.

The characters in Lost make the show.

(Slight spoilerages)

Thing is, no matter what sort of person you are, there's a character in Lost for you to identify with, even in extreme cases. Most people like Locke and Hurley, chicks dig Jack, Sawyer, Jin, and Sayiid. Lost really has something for everyone, you don't have to like it all, or even agree with half it - the fun is in trying to work out what the f is going on .

Season 2 answers some questions that most people have figured out the answer to already (like how the plane got down, the others so-called camp, good guys and bad guys etc) - but I can imagine season 3 being mostly about Des and Penny - with some Locke and Henry stuff too (Locke is the most special to the island - thinking maybe his dad is HIM!).

I purposely ignored Prison Break until about a month ago, watched season 1 in time for the start of season 2 - not sure that season 2 is a patch on season 1 yet, prison escapes make great storylines, but some dudes running from the cops is just a fugitive movie - and that bores the teeth outta me.

We used to have sitcoms that beat stuff like Friends into the ground with a large stick (Red Dwarf, Fawlty Towers, Black Adder etc) . Now we can't even do that...

I completely agree. I was referring to the dialogue. I expected more from an American drama really. Probably because I just finished watching all 7 seasons of Buffy which has the best dialogue I've ever seen. Maybe it's just unfair to expect such high quality everywhere else.

Umm...Van B, you may want to put the first paragraph in a code snippet. Jeku hasn't got that far yet.
