I've been recording this song today. Its a kind of driving rock thing with some cool guitar and a synth beat.
I'm attaching 2 versions, the instrumental and one with vocals. Im really not happy with the vocalised one, partly cos of the whole melody, partly cos of the crappy recording with a few falters of my voice, a poor ending and lack of power in the choruses.

Need you opinions

enjoy

p.s. not sure what was the right forum for this so I just chose the most general.

Hey this sounds pretty good. I haven't listened to the vocal version, but I really like the guitar playing. I suck at guitar by the way

Nice stuff man. I'm not a big rock fan really, but can definitely appreciate this. Good work. Guitar riffs are great, and the chorus is fine. You could maybe do with a few other elements in there to bring the chorus to life (maybe another lead melody). Vocals are a bit weak (like you said a few mistakes and weaknesses in your voice), but overall your voice works really well in that type of song, so a few extra practices and performances would sort that out I reckon. Instrumental is cool. The weakest part of the whole track is the drums which are quite soft drum-machine-esque and take a lot away from the tracks impact. Also, I couldn't tell if you've added a bassline, or if it's just the bass resonance from the main guitar. Either way, a nice bassline presence would be a great addition too, synthesised or real bass guitar. If it is there, its too low in the mix.

Don't know why .. it keeps reminding me of the chillis a bit. Cool tune man. I'm listening to it for the second time, so that's saying something from me seeing as I dont listen to this sort music. Instrumentals are quality, but maybe not panned hard right next time.

Song was fine, but the soundquality was fairly crunchy. Vocals weren't bad, but you need some more confidence - you need to PROOOJEEECTTTTT some MOOORRRREEEEEE, ma man! Guitar was sexy, beat was kinda blah (where's the fills?!). Mix was okay, but I'd prefer the drums to be dead center, and what's with panning the guitar lead 80% right?

Overall, it's fairly good, but needs some touching up here are there Bassline would be nice, and you might think about adding some more progression to the melodys (try tossing in a radical keychange somewhere in the middle)

thanks for the comments.
as i said, im aware of the crappy vocal quality. is the melody itself good though? I think in a new recording ill mix it up a bit with more variation between verses, and either a different or beefed up chorus with some harmonising.
the drums and bassline (it is there just quiet) were supposed to be simple and the bass quiet so as to push the guitar to the front and not get too messy. though i may change some of the drum sounds?

anyway. keep on feeding me comments. (gives me something to read whilst im at 'work')

Speak to the Cattle Rustler man. He has a drum kit that was basically stolen from a secret musical section of NASAs research program. I reckon he might be up for doing you a live drum section or two that you could sequence into this to put some character into the beatwork.

I can do it for ye, I have an acoustic set with some good recording stuff. If i can get it set up I'll be happy to do it.

EDIT: yea it sounds like a rap beat.

thatd be cool. i have played around on my mates drums and playing the existing beat sounds pretty awesome with some hard hitting little fills here and there.

Actually the vocals aren't too bad (except for a few tidbits- but enough for a demo). You have a warm, sympathic voice, pretty good. The way you sing it fits the song quite well too.
As for the drums, I like the drum machine-esque sound. Perhaps flip/mix it with real drums- but I'd definitely leave some of it in the song. The track does need a solid bass line, though.

Actually I like the drum samples and robotic tempo, but tossing in some little fills here and there (nothing too much, every eight bars perhaps) would add some shine to a somewhat neglected element in this piece

yeah, i've definately got a good idea for some little fills here and there to add impact to pre-chorus and chorus.
i personally like the synth drums cos they give the song a different edge, but i also love the sound of real drums and they may give the song a bit more power. a bit torn there.
as for bass, ill just turn it up in the mix. thing is its just played on guitar, not bass guitar, so i may have to borrow my friends bass and re record it.

Use both. I do that quite often. For example, switch between synth drums and real drums using the same rhythm. Or have parts where the synth drums are responsible for the groove and the real drums do some hi hat work on top of that. For the more prominent parts of the song layer both drums with slightly different grooves. During those parts it often makes sense to lo/hi cut the synth drums in order to prevent an undefinable mash.

You definitly should.
