Ok I had a seim-long post on this and it didnt go thorugh so now I have to re-write it

I am making an rpg engine and I need some help with dp. I have slow downs with the terrain. I could possibly be needing help with modelling or 2D graphics if you want. If your interested post, email me, msn me, or aim me.

I didnt use my media except for the terrain. and water so here is some credit too...

Megaton Cat for the fantasy pack
SteveJ for the sky image
Psonic for the dwarf

Here are a few screenshots (the screenshots are a bit old I added in different water and the dwarf). I was going to upload the demo but it wouldnt upload so I will try again later. Any question about it you can ask me thanks

For the slowdowns, use an FPS Increaser, something that checks if the object is in the screen, and if not, to hide it.

Like this:

Also, might i suggest creating your terrain in segments. It will be a bit quicker when using the FPSIncreaser there.

good luck.

That method is really only beneficial for animated models, as DBP automatically hides off screen static objects. Also, you should be Excluding them, not hiding them. It's faster.

Come see the WIP!

I already have something like that but thanks. My slow down is with my terrain when I create a dark physics object out of it. See this thread http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=88750&b=30

Do you have any of the code itself?

The dialogue with NPCs, inventory, shops and whatnot?

Since the main character is just a box, I assume there is no combat added in yet.

Just buildings on a terrain, and some scenery then?

Yeh but everything is totally scripted so everything is easy to change and add. I need to add in physics first which is why I dont havbe that stuff yet but once I do than I can start adding that (which is why this is here).

Maybe you shouldn't make a DP object out of the terrain. You should just use the get terrain height commands.

When you use dark physics you cant use any of the normal positioning commands.

But I thought Dark Physics was suppose to be so simple and easy to use. The interface examples look simple enough. Is it far harder to use than what they present it as?

Use sparky's dll for everything to do with the player, that way you shouldn't even have to setup the player as a DP object and would be able to position it.
