Indeed it could be. You can make anything look cool, with just a texture...
To me, it just looks like you've taken an MP5 texture, and plonked it onto any random model.

That proves you extrude a spline, well done, let me pat you on the back.

But if you really want to model a weapon, read the 'New to 3D' and 'Game Design' tutorials that come with Max 8, which you say you have. It wont tell you how to make a weapon, but it will teach you how to make characters and every day objects, which you can use to model weapons.

What do you say about that, Adam? Will you read the tutorials?
