Hi!

I keep getting the error Severe Exception when I attempt to load a level made by Megaton Cat. I believe it is only 9000 polys, so I don't think that it is too many to throw an error. I've uploaded the project, which just has the level, a texture, and some code (one line).

Here it is again anyways.

The Code

The Tutorial - Megaton Cat's tutorial. You can download the cartography shop project there if you would like.

I don't know what's wrong, I can't find any information on severe exception errors. Maybe DBC just can't handle it... If anyone could help that would be great!

Hi eek,

I looked over the .x file included with your post. From what I can tell, it's missing a few important templates and I think the way it using it's Frame Template, is not very clean. The main missing templates are the MeshNormal templates. I'm willing to bet this is what's causing the error. As far as correcting it, check the export options that will actually create your .x file. See if there is a setting or a toggle button to include mesh normals in the output file.

The Frames may be a problem also. If an .x is going to use frames, each mesh and it's definitions should be contained within it's own frame template. You can of course contain multiple frames within other frame templates (this is how parent child limb relationships are created). Take a look at this link. Instead of redescribing the general format of a .x file, the method I describe in the post may help you get the general idea of what I'm trying to say.

Hmm...Well, I was just using Cartography Shop to export the .x, which has no options on exporting. I have used other maps that I've created in CShop, but Megaton Cat's wouldn't work. I read the other post which was very informative, but I'm not sure I would be able to get it to work. The project file didn't come with the textures, so it was replaced with the default texture when brought into CShop. This may have cause it to mess up the exportation of the .x. Well thanks Latch for the info and help, I'm not sure there's an easy way of fixing this!
