I'm trying to make a new hud icon, but every time I save the file as hud_icon.dds, the whole black background of the image shows up in the game also.
Could someone please post the correct way to create a transparent DDS file in Photoshop? Also, should I save the file as DTX1, DTX3, DTX5, etc.?

click the channels tab. click the new layer button.

you'll see a new channel appear. called alpha1

this is your alpha channel. anything black on this layer will be see-through. anything white will be solid.

Even easier way of making a transparency is just making a png image. Automatically anything thats transparent in the image, is in the game also. The game will make the dds for ya after that with the correct info........one less step.
