Hey, I just got Photoshop CS2, and Dreamweaver today, but have been using CS2 for most of the day. I was messing around with effects and got something interesting.
And another.

And...another.

The third "Another". (too large for page)
http://twinkeemedia.com/images/other/chain.JPG
I made a new logo for my site TwinkeeMedia.com

Another

Try to help me keep this bumped, unless it really dies.

Please comment, keep me inspired!

Thanks, Torsten.

Sticking to just the effects panel is generally frowned upon in modern design...have a go at experimenting creating your own shapes and looks.

Also, if you're gonna do letters, look more into typography so you don't end up with up small fuzzy text that just looks bad. Good job on getting CS2 and DW aswell. Have a look at some galleries of proffesional work for some inspiration.

Well that's my advice, good luck!

Well, I know advice from you on this subject would always be useful.
I have all today to mess around (except for grocery shopping later), so I should be able to get a few things done, maybe with a tutorial or two. Thanks Megaton

Is that a font, or drawn letters, and how did you get that blue glow?
Edit: You make that for http://www.myspace.com/phoenixophelia?

Its just A font, but the blue glow is an effect + filter. And yes, I made it as a temp thing for the band. Matty rules.

no, he is Matty. Thats his name. I used the stroke effect, on 2 pixels, the outer glow, and then blurred the image, then I duplicated the layer on darken for a darker effect=).

Pretty good for your first day. Pretty bad overall, but that's good progress you're making.

For your run of the mill overuse filters tutorial site, go to: http://tutorialoutpost.com/tutorials/photoshop/effects

hmm i have photoshop elements 2. and the best art i've ever made is a black square. oh and i made my banner/logo for zh3 in that.

i like ur underwater scene render thingy.

a problem i get with Elements 2 is that when i save the image as a transparent PNG, the transparent color turns blue in Internet Explorer. while in firefox it's transparent :/

Thats a problem with Internet Explorer not PhotoShop. IE has bad support for PNG images and their transparency/translucency. Its caused me problems in the past.

Good job in your choice of software Torsten, by the way. I use both PhotoShop and DreamWeaver on a daily basis and there isn't really anything which comes close to them for image manipulation and Web design (in my opinion).

Ah Fireworks. Badass.

You gotta find the slice tool on the left hand toolbar and draw the boxes you wished to slice. Then Hit File > Export.

Made me laugh for a few seconds. Now I just gotta find out how to make the images in tables...something I've struggled with for ages..never been able to properly display a graphical table...gotta..find..out..some day soon.

Hey, hey, finally someone who gets it Good to be loved.

Torsten, you're making damn good progress for your second day. Try making various things too, while you're at it, like web graphics and layouts, or animated banners with ImageReady. Doesn't need to be grandioso, but its all good to get used to the playground you're at.

Must be nice being able to spend thousands on software at a whim. I'm *really* torn on whether to spend $200 on music software

Ah, try before you buy. I was going to get Sonar, but I tried it at a local studio, and it wasn't really geared towards me, although the effects were awesome. Ya might find out that one program has better preset effects than the other, or the interface is more suited towards you, and that'll save you that $200 from being a dissapointment.

I think what Jeku meant was he found it interesting how you've spent hundreds of dollars to buy Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Fireworks almost all in the same day. If you already bought one graphic app, why buy another?

Quote: "Now I just gotta find out how to make the images in tables...something I've struggled with for ages..never been able to properly display a graphical table...gotta..find..out..some day soon.

As I said, just slice whatever you need, then hit export and export as .html file. Proceed to edit in Dreamweaver.

Check out the help files included. Search "slicing".

Sadly there's no demo for the exact product I want. There are other SONAR demos, but they will have different features, either more or less, and I don't want to get accustomed to something awesome just to have it not exist in the version I want

@Torsten - I am thinking about SONAR Cakewalk Home Studio 4 XL

I'm sure theres a few studios in Vancouver, most the studios around here (even Skywalker Ranch) allow for free tours, so try giving them a call and find out what they use. It's also good to see how a pro music studio does things. Or heck, I'm almost 99% sure that theres an EA studio in Vancouver, they'd probably let you in I'm sure

That version is ok for recording (leaks tracks together), but is easy to use for creating midi. I would reccomend it for the price you said you could get it.

if you really bought these products then good luck to you.
if you spend more time using them then worrying about objections your already heading down the right track.
once you master tables its time to move on to div tags.
spend a little more time exploring fireworks, its a very robust tool for web as well as having a better compressor for jpegs/gifs/pngs etc then photoshop.
some people think they are the shizznit, most of the time they are wannabes, take it onboard but also add your own flair.
most of the ones who try to tell you something with adamant are regarding a particular aspect dying to push their ideals with no proof in background.
pay no attention and cut your own groove. it causes pain but pays off in the end.

Torsten: You do not need to slice it into little boxes like that. Try to keep in my what will tile and what will not when you actually take it into DW. Add me to MSN if you need some help or want to be guided through it.

Generally, when there is a lack of replies, it means people are not interested or don't care. No point in forcing it on people by constantly bumping it.

I post up my graphic work often, and I usually get a good few comments and then I just let it sink without posting much myself. Nothing wrong with self-promotion, but whoring is a whole different story. You've just gotten into it, posted your stuff, got comments. Just keep on working and don't mind the thread.
