Saikoro, we all know about the fact that Duke Nukem forever has been delayed for God only knows how many years but that won't necessarily be true for the film (or "movie" if you're american)

It's still a stupid idea but stupid ideas generally means stupid people (I use the word generally with great caution)

Me and everyone I know by me calls it a film. No need to be a bigot about it.

Would Duke Nuke 'em the movie be any worse than Doom the movie? Has anyone bothered watching that? At least the duke has more personaility than ID's creation, even if he does set the femiminest movement back a few hundred years

Zaibatsu, its old news, I found a lot of sites saying it was getting made and the date which it was posted, was 2001.

Eh? Since when do we not call it a movie, or americans never call it a film? As far as I know we both call it a movie or a film. There are a few things that are different (we say "series", the US says "season"), but not movies. Apart from flicks. Apparently you do tend to call them that sometimes (according to some programs) where we very rarely do (in the last few decades at least). Don't know where that comment about films and movies came from....

Cheers

Wait, we say "series" for an entire TV franchise--- i.e. the Friends series. But we refer to a year of the series as "season".

Are you saying you've actually played Duke Nukem Forever?

Yeah, think he meant that PS1 rubbish. If he played Forever then it is probably scrapped and they have moved onto another engine by now. Again.

Heh, would be funny if they could budget, plan, cast, script, shoot, and distribute (to DVD too) before Forever actually came out as a game. If they had started when the game was started then it would be an old classic by now, or at least be on a 3rd or 4th sequel.

Yeah, I can see the logic with "Season" and "Series". Season seems to grind with us. Maybe because we can't get past the idea that a season is like summer, winter etc. Dunno. We go program->series->lots of series And we don't say "that Friends series", as we would say that of a single "season". We would say "that Friends program" or "that Friends show".

Although these days, probably thanks to BitTorrent, we are coming around a bit to calling it "season". Although the channels normally call it "series".

Cheers

Now I'm confused

So in the UK they'll call 1 year of friends a "series"? How interesting. How do you discern between 1 year and the entire show's franchise?

The entire 10 series of Friends is called "the entire 10 series of Friends". 1 year of Friends is called "1 series of friends". If you have 10 lines of coins then each line would be a series of coins would they not? The whole lot would be a series of a series of coins I guess. Or a lot of series of coins. Or 10 series of coins (10 series of friends).

So we would say "that friends program" pretty much applying to all 200+ episodes, or the franchise basically. We would then say "remember series 5?" to refer to specific series of programs (ie. a season). Then we would say "and episode 9" to refer to an episode inside that series.

Cheers

Actually, to us anyway, the Friends franchise would cover spin-offs like Joey too. So, no, we wouldn't really say "the Friends franchise" to specifically highlight all series of just Friends. In fact we would automatically assume you mean the Friends universe (including Joey) if you said that. Nah, we wouldn't actually mention anything really to indicate all series of Friends. So "What I like about Friends" would cover it all really.

Cheers

George Brossard and Co admented to screwing up in an interview with PC Gamer but I think PCG was paid to say that DNF is up and running and being worked on. 3D Realms "can't be trusted" look at PREY. A darn good game, But seriously, Using the DOOM3 engine? They could have used any other AAA engine and what difference would have it made? I guess they have to use the D3 engine as much before it to becomes-"Dated?!"
Heck, I guess they owe just about everything to John Carmack and his code cruncher? Or are they just lazy? Or somewhere in between? When Scott Miller helped id off the ground back in the 90's with Wolf3D the tables were turned with id pulling 3D Realms from being "nuked" off the face from game entertainment forever. Max Payne 3? Give me a break!

And yes Duke Nukem the movie will never happen unless they can keep the budget under the same as "Silent Hill" or less. Think about that one for a tick. Sequel for SL anytime soon? Didn't think so.

Why not? The Doom 3 engine is extremely powerful.

Wait, what? What does Scott Miller have to do with Wolf3D?

Scott Miller was impressed with John C and John Romero and had to secretly talk to them into working with him and help them out with Wolf3D remember? It's been awhile but if you need to read your id history go check out Masters of DOOM and see how the id boys got Wolf3D off the ground and notice how paranoid Scott and George were during the early days. Or perhaps they were just protecting what everyone else could have created themselfs.
