I'm going to have to go with the CG theory. In the second video you can see all the helicopters and cables which would be nothing short of an airspace nightmare for even the best pilots.

It looks very real. If it is, well, helicopters pilots are real heroes or real mad-ready-to-die peoples!

Did you see the pilots opening bottles of beer with their helicopters? Quite impressive.
(Don't try this at home, kids. Unless you have a helicopter, of course.)

This is cool this one:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=UznxqvJJ80g&mode=related&search=

I really don't know about this. Like tinker girl showed, pilots have the skill. These must be military pilots aswell, which means they'll be slightly insane. They're in iceland, so they'd do anything to sit next to a heat source - in this case, a helicopter.

But serious. It's possible. It's doable. It seems rediculous. It seems incredibly dangerous. It seems illegal. I'd say 75% of me thinks its CG, 25% of me thinks its real. I'd really like it to be real.

Edit: For some bizarre reason, the link to the video I've found actually goes to the video posted above. Very strange.

Edit: Fixed link. 100% convinced it's a hoax now. Feel stupid for entertaining the possibility it might not be.

Yes, they're very skilled, but there's nothing as dangerous as these three helicopters turning around themselves with cables... As Fallout said, or it's (very well done) CG or it's totally dangerous and illegal...

The last time there were chinook helicopters in iceland was in 1997 with NATO...

It's CG. Although I must admit, it's very convincing and there's probably loads of people out there who would fall for this.

That's great. Really well done CG. Although I wondering if the puppet is a minature - it moves really well but seems to lack weight.

I think the other giveaway asides from the other reasons is that the streets are completely empty. There's no way anyone would go to those lengths to create a display like that and not tell anyone.

It can't be CG. Doing that with CG take a month of work (modelling, texturing, after work...) , all that just to put it on YouTube...

Listen to what your common sense tells you. I ignored mine for too long. If it's too good to be true, it always is.

How long do you think it would take to make a 4 story high puppet that was light enough to be carried by 3 helicopters? Not exactly something you knock together at the weekend.

By way of demonstration, he emitted a batlike squeak that was indeed bothersome.

What's your problem, man. You're cutting people up in every thread.

Anyways, it *is* a good hoax, especially the first one where the camera is jerking around and the puppet is outside the window.

There's a bit of an indication that it's not real because there's nobody outside, pedestrians etc.

It's supposed to be 4am though, remember? I think the vid where the puppet leans down and looks into the window is a bit of a giveaway. During the brief focus blur, the puppet looks wrong, particularly the hand on the roof, where the blue of the roof bleeds into the palm of the hand, even though the hand is apparently obscuring all the blue of the roof beneath it. It wouldnt be possible for that colour to bleed during the blur, as it can't be seen. That'd most likely occur when two separate blured images are composited.

Edit: Btw, obviously that's just a stab in the dark. I just think it's a hoax and am looking for faults.

Edit 2: Here's some more evidence. Everyone who has added a giant puppet video to YouTube has 1 month or less membership. Most of them exactly 1 month. They've all added a random crap vid, and their puppet video. You'd expect they'd either have been on there longer and added more vids, or signed up specifically to add the puppet video. Instead, they've all established a fake online youtube presence (with crap names that all have 4ever!! in the title) at the same time, with almost the same amount of content.

Good pickup on the names, definitely looks like someone creating multiple accounts specifically for this purpose. I think another dead giveaway is the fact that there's been no media coverage. Pretty sure it's a fake.

This however, is almost certainly real:
