I wonder if anyone can help me with a little Visual Basic project i'm working on. Its an alerts system, that is linked to an online database.

What the program does is, everytime i create a news article, anyone with the software downloaded will get a notification popup on their computer, similar to the "Download Dog" software from Download Festival, and VFestivals alerts program (http://www.virtualfestivals.co.uk/ click on the red banner at the top of the page).

I'm not sure how to start this program, or what it would involve, but anyone who knows, or if anyone knows of a tutorial for this sort of thing, i would be most grateful!

Why bother with a dedicated program that many users may not want to install. Specially VB projects that need all sorts of runtime libraries installed.

Just let people register their email address and then mailshot them when a new news article is added. So much simpler.
