Hey, guys, I was wondering HOW can u get rid of bullets and add laser effects, like Star Wars, or something... Is it possible? If so, how?

Currently, FPSC has no particle system, so I don't know how you could do it.

You can kinda fake it by using geometry for the beams and moving them around durring the firing animation but it is far from perfect.

I'm attaching a short clip of some experimenting I did a while back. Semi-neat, I suppose.

Yeah.

The beam sits behind the camera/gun and when it firing, it moves foreward. The beam is incredibly long and has to travel really far to reach the centerpoint.

I had to put the emitter under the grip portion because you see it come from behind otherwise. I suppose if the gun was long enough to go off screen it would work ok. I could see an E-11 type Star Wars blaster being able to work like this because of the long tub-shaped body.

edit: crossposted with Locrian... I wrote it off as a learning experience. When you move into shadow the beam gets dark like the gun does and at that point I decided it wasn't worth it to go any further. The illumination shader didn't look like it was compatible with POV weapons and I'm too much of an FPSC noob to try to mess with that kind of thing.

Check The fourm about my flamthrower it talkes about adn invisble bullet and a flame muzzle flash u could od the same but insted of a flame you could do a lazer.

Plus, with errant's weapon, if he'd turned 45 degrees left or right, and shot one of the two corridoor walls down towards the target, you would've seen the beam going straight through the wall.

But yeah, that aside, the blaster is really nice.

Actually, the laser beam never clips through anything. The HUD stuff renders last. The problem is that if, say, you shoot a wall right in front of you, It still looks like the beam has travled far into the distance even though it hit something right next to you.

Its a little hard to see in a low quality vid, so I'll post the HUD.X and the gunspec to mess around with. Not including a color map but I'll post the alpha channel. Laser bolt is in the lower right.

Lukeirado,

Have a look at the tacked weapon importing tutorial by Opposing Force that's tacked to the top of this forum. It will help you understand the components I've posted.

The quick and dirty:

1.Make a copy of the scifi\blaster directory located in gamecore\guns.

2.Rename the new directory whatever you want.

3.In the new directory, overwrite the file named HUD.X with the .X file I have provided (make sure you rename it).

4. Open the Gunspec.txt file in notepad.

5. Replace the text with the text I have supplied in the code snippet.

6. Assign the new weapon to the be the starting weapon.

NOTE: The texture will be messed up but you can see how the effect looks/works (more or less). This is only intended to help people learn a little about faked laser weapons and is not a complete weapon in any sense. The more FPSC savvy you are, the more you will get out of it.

Lukeirado, It's one map for both. You'll need to edit whatever "gun_D2.dds" or "gun_D.dds" (if you're using shaders) is in the directory that you copied for the laser. See where there's a gradation in the lower, right-hand portion of the map? That's the laser portion of the map. Make that part red. Make the rest dark grey or something.

Edit: ahh I see you've allready started- cool! I saw you modeled an E-11 for your stormtrooper that looked pretty nice. You should work on getting that into FPSC as soon as you feel confident with HUD weapon editing.

Sorry Rock Candy, no-can-do on the UV maps. I'm only trying to share knowledge, so that people can learn a method to make their own. Hope you understand.

OH, the gun didn't have any texture. It was only a model with a gray color on it.

But anyways, I will make a texture out of that gun =D. I hope it works fine...

Sry 4 double posting, but I made my texture, but the gun is still all white. What did I do wrong, it is at the TGA format and I changed the gunspect file already.
