Not, and this picture has been around for YEAAAARRSSS... I remember seeing this when we got our 386 and got the Our Solar System educational title for Window 3.1

That is a very old picture. NASA hasn't just decided to show it at all. In fact it is the main feature in the 2000 movie Mission to Mars starring Tim Robbins and Gary Sinise.

There are other images of the same feature which show that under different lighting conditions it looks nothing like a face. It was just a fluke of shadows.

Its a mountain (and rather large too) - the original conspiracy came about when the the picture was taken in '76, because the camera was too low res to make the features detailed enough.

Anyone who thinks it was created by an acient civilisation should either stop watching looped videos of Star Trek or seek help - its on the same level as secret Nazi moon bases...
