Title says it all, when I join a server for multiplayer games, I get the kit select screen and then the game freezes up and I sometimes have to actually restart my computer.

I've confirmed this:

1. It's not the video card, every other game I play works fine.
2. I've turned off firewall, still doesn't work.
3. 1 player mode works fine, it is just multiplay.
4. I downloaded the latest patches, and I still have the same problem.

Any ideas?

Maybe, but I couldn't really find anyone else having this particular problem on a battlefield forum. I figured someone might know what to do here, but if not then I'm sorry for posting this here.

When is the last time you updated your video drivers? This is usually the common cause for BF2 lockups.

Whenever I joina a BF2 server, a few seconds after joining the game the game locks up / the frame rate goes down to like 2 FPS, and that lasts for about 5-10 seconds, but after that everything is fine. I've never had to restart, I just wait it out. I've never had an explination for it.

You probably need more/better RAM.

While BF2 is a great game, the technical aspect of their servers sucks . Takes way to long to get into, lags with too many people, says servers are full when they aren't, maps don't always show up right (I join a map with a certain server only to be changed to another map), and some other things. But once you actually get to play it's good .

Are you running SATA perchance?

I had that problem, or one with similar symptoms, when I changed from IDE to SATA. Driver update from motherboard vendor solved it for me.

It doesn't take very long to get into. Most of it is map load time. The connection time is nearly the same as almost every other game. I just played a server today with 55 people on a 768kbps connection and there was absolutely no lag. And the map might not be right because the server may have changed maps since you updated the list, or while you were joining. But yes, it's a great game. Very fun

really? For me it's about 30 seconds to load the map then it sits at the "connecting to server" for about 5 minutes some times .

Hmm, well, I'd have to say my computer takes longer to load the game than connect and it probably loads in under a minute and a half. I really don't complain about the wait though. Remember when BF1942 came out a few years back? The maps were just as large scale and out PC's were half the speed Load times were bad...

What kind of video card do you have, and how much video memory does it have? That will also effect it. It seems like a memory issue to me, though I could be wrong.

Never played that . BF2 is the first BF game I've played, I saw that next-gen one their making (forgot what it's called?), and decided I wanted to check out BF2. Glad i did .

The pause after loading is usually due to the syncing of objects/players between server and your client.
