Hey, well my computer has been acting a bit funny lately. To start off, here's my specs

AMD 64 3200+ (2.0ghz)
1.5 gigabytes of memory
Geforce 6800GT 256mb
WinXP pro

Well basically what is happening, is whenever I run a full screen game for about 10 to 15 minutes, the computer starts to slow down, the game's framerate gets worse and worse, and the game hangs up every now and then. Eventually it will completely freeze.

Now, I'm positive nothing is overheating, and nothing is overclocked. The bios has been reset. I upgraded my video card drivers today, and also defragged. After I upgraded and defragged, the problem seems not to happen as fast as it did earlier, but it still has happened twice. I have tested in a few games, so I know it's not specific to just one.

This first started happeneing about a week ago, but it wasn't as severe as it is now, and would only happen maybe once a day over the few hours I was gaming.

If anyone has any suggestions for this issue as to what it could be or things to try, I'd appreciate it. I'm off to run some more tests now, I'll check back soon though.

Edit: Also, Ad-Aware tells me there is no spyware to worry about.

Edit2: Spybot found a few little tracking cookies, I killed those. I doubt they had anything to do with the issue.

Well I'm not sure if this will help, but I did have a problem some what like that with certain software. It turned out that it was my Radeon card, so I had to go into troubleshooting and change the way it ran when I used those certain programs. Like I said before, I'm not sure if that will help, but other than that, the only thing I can think of is that you are low on memory... but then again, I'm not a computer genuis so i probably wouldn't know

Cocacola and Pepsi aren't that differnt. Deal with it.

Hmm, well I'm not low on memory. 1.5 gigs is plenty for everything I do. However, I have had issues with my RAM in the past, so I have been experimenting my RAM simms. No luck yet though unfortunately. I can't imagine it has anything to do with my card settings, since I haven't had an issue like this since I bought the the thing. I just hope my video card isn't failing, slowly but surely...

Nevermind, I think I got it working right again. I'm pretty sure it was my memory. 1 stick might be bad. Bummer. I actually just returned and got a replacement of one of these sticks. I guess you get what you pay for. Next time I buy RAM it won't be the ValueSelect line.

I too just recently had some bad RAM I was quite happily going about my business and Firefox just closed randomly without warning. I thought, ok.... Then the machine just stopped - screen went black, but computer was still 'on'. Pressed the power button, and it switched off properly.

This happened a few times, and then it wouldn't load Windows. Eventually worked out it was one of my sticks of RAM - I should really buy another pair...
