I can't find any reference to it in the help, on to the maximum number of vertices you should use for performance.

I have tried to craete a roadside kerb with 400 static boxes, but the program dies at 99. I don't get an error message, it just stops and returns to DsrkEdit.

Do you have a modeller? You'd be better off modelling something like that as a single object, instead of 400
Or, make larger sections, I'm guessing you have these boxes overlapping eachother where you make a curve, but if you are you're wasting polygons. Try making curb sections in a modelling package, and delete all faces you won't be seeing
