Well, not quite. But it's an original thread title!

I started this because I am frustrated with a new one I just got. I landed vertically on the side of my head and shoulder, which seemed to have severly pulled a muscle in my neck. My head is now firmly tilted to the side, and my left shoulder is 3 inches lower then my right shoulder, and my posture is completly broken. The doc said I wouldn't be able to properly move my head for about a week.

It's a complete pain, because I have to walk around in public looking like a complete retard, with people asking me why my shoulders are so slumped and why I can't turn my head.

I know a few of you do contact sports/activities (I know, wow!) so has anyone ever had an injury like this? If not, what are you current/recent ones?

Ow. I so wish this chair retracted...so now I'm sitting here on the forums, not doing anything and bored.

EDIT: I actually wrote all that out and forgot to say how I did it. It happened during a bad fall on my end anfter being thrown.

LMAO

yea, youve just pulled a muscle

i did it once, i just woke up, stretched where i stretched my head away from my arms and a heard this sick clickin noise and was like what your describing , not nice, but funny to look back on

the best thing you can do is slowly massage and move it than stay as still as possible, atleast that what i did, and i got betetr fairly quick and it eased it a bit

The strain you're talking about is very common, and very painless compared to this. (As I get what you just described regularly from sitting at the PC funny and sleeping on an odd angle)

I excersize alot, but I've neglected to straighten my neck, which probably contributed to this.

Once I recover, it's headstands all the way.

Ow...that's pretty bizzare! But I mean, you still screwed it up under your own power right? Pretty wierd.

I do that kind of stuff everyday when I wake up (loud cracks and all). I guess I'll think twice after this...

Sorry bud, I'm afraid you're gonna have to go under the knife, and then straight to intense physical therapy after that.

It's OK. It happened some time ago. I'm OK now but I don't really like talking about it, it was a traumatic time for me

Worst injury I've ever had in my life was whilst sweeping the floor of our office.

It was a simple broom with a solid plastic handle but I was sweeping so hard it snapped in half and somehow the sharp edge of the break sliced through my finger all the way to the bone. Blood everywhere and me trying to remain calm and not cry like a little baby in front of my workmates.

Boo!

I have hurt my wrist, got a black eye and had a panic attack.

That's everything that's happened in my life. Few cuts and stuff too.

What kind of hospital did you go to? They only keep you 48 hours here for that. Or did it keep collapsing

As for me ... I've almost never been hurt badly. Just busted my head 3 times (stitches each time), 2 sprained ankles, 2 broke toes, and many bruises and scraps. Nothing bad though.

The worst injury I have ever had is when my head fell off.

I still haven't managed to recover the brain.

i had a similar incident to chilled just a week ago, i got up and my necy was a little stiff, then when preparing breakfast i tilted my head down and it went crunch, i couldn't move my head out of the position at all and had to lie on my bed for 10mins (supporting it with my arms as i lay down) to let it relax and straighten up just so i could stand up again without agony. i still couldn't move my neck much for days, i was eating ibuprofen like smarties lol.

my recent inflicted injuries arose from saturdays hockey match, bruised knee from the ball, and a bruised heel (that is very hard to achieve without a close range struck ball) also from a ball. also i have bruised my back on the vertibra just at the top of the average chair which i assume i picked up during the post match booze up, which is rather annoying in lectures and things when you can't slouch comfortably.

you have my sympathy megaton, strained necks really suck.

edit:

I broke a bone in my left foot and the doctors didn't find out until 6 years later. I ended up with casts on both feet (the other one was messed from an accident resulting from my left) for 6 weeks. That's about it.

Yes It felt a bit off--- about 3 months before my surgery I was twisting my ankle every single day at school. This was in grade 6 mind you, and some of the other kids thought it was funny--- but it sucked!

Oh, and the neck thing also happened to me, I woke up one night and rolled my neck to crack it and ended up instead in intense pain with my head cocked to the side. A very funny experience afterward, but very painful.

The first time I sprained my ankle it sucked, because I done what the doctors said to do. I used crutches and never walked on it, etc. The second time I man'd it out and walked on it everyday at school. I only stayed off it for a little less than a day. It was healed in 3-4 days vs almost 2 weeks when using the crutches. It hurt really bad when walking on it, but the faster healing was worth it.

Quickly, after reading only the initial post:

I had neck spasms once and could not tilt my head much. Sucked like the dickens and stayed for about 3 days.

I used to have kneecaps too small for my legs because of a growth surge, so occasionally they'd pop out of place, sometimes one, sometimes both.
Also, I managed to tear my ankle ligament about 3 times in 4 weeks, cos I was stubborn and wouldn't stop playing football, after the third time I was literally on the ground with tears in my eyes because it hurt so much

Broken ankle, pinky finger, and buckled my knee the wrong way giving myself a cruchy kneecap (even after keyhole surgery). You know when someones really buggered their knee, they make this horrible noise, like someone in extreme agony but without the breath to scream.

Home made spear punctured my left eye.

Countless cuts and scars.

I had an intruiging childhood, has to be said.

when i was little I squashed my little finger in a fire proof door, now i only have 9.5 fingers :/

when i was riding the skateboard behind a bike i fell and got a big juice whole on my hand where i could see the meet.

one time when i tried to breakdance i fell and hit my foot on the corner of a table. the between the toes i got a 5cm cut where i also could see the meat. the day after that was school prom when we were supposed to dance and what not.

on time in school when i was studying to become a plumber (heh) i drilled a hole in the roof and got all the dust in my right eye. I couldn't see on that eye for about 10 mins. THAT was scary.
that next school year i started with computers.

oh and i made a backflip on the trampoline and landed on my head.
now when i try to do a backflip i panic. i still haven't concured the fear of landing on my head again :/

My cousin threw it, the distance I was away, well there was no way it was intentional, just a damn lucky shot. Now that was one scary injury, I was only about 6, but I still remember it vividly.

The best injuries when your a kid are broken legs and ankles, real painful, but you get like 6 weeks off school and they tend to mend quite easily .

I had my foot run over by my friend while I was still in his car He stopped to let me out as I was geting out the car rolled forward pinning my foot sideways underneath me while i was till sitting in the back seat, he went to move the car and rolled further forward by mistake. That foot is still at an odd angle when I walk 15 years later.

When I was a kid I fell down an up escalator and the teeth tore all the skin off the front of my shin right down to the bone.

Wait I have more.

I got a compound fracture of my left leg playing football, Recently I broke my right Clavivical the same way (its now shaped like a W).

When I was little I had a "splinter" go all the way through my leg and had to have surgery to remove most of it from my thigh muscle.

I have broken so many bones that I fear I glow in the dark from all the X-rays, A doctor once joked with me that they were going to name one of the ER curtain rooms after me.

It stayed collapsed for 10 days. None of the instant inflation they expected.

Ha. It was in my sleep, I woke up at around 2 A.M. with a quite a bit of pain in my chest. So I went to a hospital that worked out what had happned (by listening to the resonance of my chest) they sent me to another hospital to have an x-ray. The x-ray showed a (according to all the doctors) very impressive collapse. So they tried to syringe all the unwanted air out. After two litres they realised it hadn't done anything so they put a chest drain in, sent me to another hospital after that hadn't worked instantly and there I waited.

Hobgoblin Lord: Haha, you definatly beat all of us. That's quite an impressive list.

Breaking the right clavical must have sucked (unless you're left-handed). I broke my left during the winter, so I could still use my good hand. It healed kinda crooked, as all do. A friend of mine just broke it a few weeks ago...and I mean BROKE it. It's broken into 4 peices. He had to get surgery to get two extra peices out, and have a metal plate connect the remaining two together. And all I did was sit on my ass for a few months.

Some of the folks in my dojo have insane injury histories. Shoulder surgeries, knee surgeries, several breaks on a single limb, and breaks in wierd places normal people simply wouldn't get unless they do specific martial arts joint locks. People just come back for more.

Alas no I am right handed, I also busted up my left pinky during that injury and the top knuckle is twice the size of the same knuckle on my right hand, messed up my guitar playing pretty bad as it is pretty weak now. I hated sleeping sitting up for a month.
