UGH! Driving me crazy!

Okay, so if you go to my website's forum and try to join, you'll get an error message saying you put in the wrong confirmation code (and you aren't prompted to put in a confirmation code, so it's sort of a stupid message). So I went and searched their knowledge base and found this article... problem solved, right? Not a chance! It tells me I need to edit a file called admin/board_config_body.tpl, and guess what... it doesn't exist. There isn't a single file with the .tpl extension after it anywhere on my server So I went to their forums and tried to work it out there, but no, they suggest I turn the confirmation on in my admin panel, and my admin panel doesn't have ANYTHING about that on it this sucks; the forum is otherwise totally cool and has a ton of neat features that I like (not on par with Apollo but hey, what forum is?). Does anyone know how to fix this? I made a post on their forums but this is home lol, I'm better off asking here I think

That would be awesome. As it stands I'm going crazy lol. There's no point in making my forum more aesthetically-pleasing if it doesn't work, so it's keeping me from getting it finished It would be nice if they had support people who checked their own forums, say, once per month but eh, beggers can't be choosers I suppose.

What template are you using?
and what did the template_check.php script tell you?

and the board_config_body.tpl file should be in

/templates/nameoftemplateyouareusing/admin/board_config_body.tpl

but if you tell me what template you are using, i can install it to my test forum and see if i can fix it.

hehe yeah, sorry, I figured it out last night (into this morning), that the code in the knowledge base needed to be put into the template folder, and not the admin folder in the php root directory (where I'd put it previously and had caused an error hehe). But it's fixed now Thanks for helping though, and thanks for registering hehe. I should make you a mod

Edit: I'm having more problems though my girlfriend is trying to log in after registering and she's getting an error message that says "Sorry, but your password cannot be retrieved because your account is currently inactive. Please contact the forum administrator for more information." Well, that's me... but I have no idea how to fix that Can you log in gowmars? does it allow you to or are you getting this same error message?

hmm, well i can log in no problem after i did the email activation.

did she check her email and click the link to activate her account.

if so and its still acting up, id say just go into your admin cp and delete her account and tell her to reregister, or you can just create her an account yourself form the admincp

I fixed it just now, I was going to do what you said and delete her account and have her re-register, but then I saw that I could go into her profile, and at the bottom of the page there's an admin panel, I went onto that and it said her account was inactive, so I just set it to active hehe. Worked like a charm hehe. It's odd that it did that though... maybe it's something wrong with my MySQL database?

Thanks for all of your help by the way I'm adding you to the moderator group... if my site ever gets some traffic you'll be a mod for it hehe. Unless you don't want that for some reason, but eh, it's all I can do for the help you gave. And hey, there's only three users lol.

Sweet, thanks I'll take a look and ask you how you did this, that, and the other thing hehe I want to get mine to a point where it's neat enough that people start to feel the need to visit it on a regular basis, but I guess that depends more on the quality of the games we make Anyway, I'm off to watch the new xmen movie, again, thanks for all the help and enjoy your new mod powers hehe

Sorry for the double-post but it's silly (imo) to start a whole new thread for a pre-existing problem. Anyway...

e-mail verification for yahoo! isn't working... it returns an error stating that the e-mail address is invalid. I can't figure out how to fix this for the life of me There's nothing in my administration panel that explains how to get around this. I know that not many people like Yahoo's e-mail, but that's no reason to ban millions of people from using my forum Know of a solution to this?

hmm odd. I checked it on mine and I don't seem to have the problem.

What version of phpbb are you using?

And may I ask why you have email activation on? I disabled it on mine because its just to much trouble to go through. If you’re doing it to prevent spam bots there are better ways.

it's version 2.0.21. How do I turn e-mail activation off? That would definitely solve the problem, the Captcha is more than enough for security I think.

Go to your admincp
then "Configuration" under General Admin
Then look for where is says "enable account activation" and select none.

if you don’t see it in configuration, you might have to switch your style back to subsilver and then turn it off, then change your style back to cleanfx

If I turn that off, will it still require people to register for an account, or will guests be able to post stuff?

Edit: Nevermind, just gave it a whirl and it worked out fine. Thanks! The forums are tip-top now I think. Is the captcha enough to keep spam bots out? If not, what else can I do to add extra security to my forums without making it annoying for people to sign up?

Use the simple machines forum system (SMF), it's much, much better than PhpBB, but then, just about everything is! Check out forum.openmmo.co.uk for a live demonstration.

I lay upon my bed one bright clear night, and gazed upon the distant stars far above, then I thought... where the hell is my roof?

I use this to keep away spam bots.

http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=383788

All it does is add a question to the registration that ask if you're a human or not lolol its kind of silly but works, I use to get a ton of spam bots, but not since using this mod.

About SMF I also use that for one of my site, it is more stable, and better security wise. But I like PHPBB cause i find it easier to mod and stuff.

It just gives you the bare bones of a forum. and its up to you to code and add the features you want, But I like that about phpbb, but I know some people don't, and SMF comes with many of these features already installed.
