Hellos!

So this YouTube thing is pretty big now, with a ton of people using it for podcasts, etc. Anyone here do something like that? C'mon, I wanna see.

I only posted one video, an old compilation of Diablo 2 duels I've recorded.

I have quite a few favorites on there, though can't be bothered listing them right now. The cool thing is, there are a ton of lame people and a ton of interesting/funny people, which makes the site quite fun to browse. Quite a few funny rants to. So post yours up, I swear I won't laugh.

P.S
Sorry to the YouTube haters out there.

I use YouTube a fair bit, I haven't yet uploaded an videos yet. Pretty much all I've been looking at recently is clips from a show called Who's Line Is It Anyway. And now that I have enlightened you with what I spend my free time doing you may continue with your life.

Haha, one comes out of the closet. Ironically, the one who said "Atleast I'm not a loser who watches YouTube videos".

I rekon you should post up videos. We could get like a TGC YouTube community going with video responses for each. Yeah I know...we'll actually see everyone's faces!!!Holy crap! Anyway, someone would just need to get the ball rolling. Not me, I fear webcams, but I would join in.

Or...wait for it...

"No"

Almost. Actually I was talking about people who sit at their computer all day doing nothing but looking at videos. I wouldn't call you a loser anyway, that's just mean.

Quote: "I rekon you should post up videos. We could get like a TGC YouTube community going with video responses for each."

Oh indeed I will, just you wait..

Quote: "Or...wait for it..."

Yes. No actually I think it would be a nice idea.

One of the better shows on cable, as long as it's the US version with Drew Carey (the UK version isn't nearly as good).

If you enjoy that, you might like our Thank God You're Here, which places the 'guest' in a random scenario and they have to improv their way through. It has it's ups and downs, and some skits are a lot better than others, but it sure beats most of the other comedy shows around.

American and British humour is very different, you will generally love one and hate the other. The worst thing they did in the UK version of Whose Line Is It Anyway (which is the original ) was to put Greig Proops on it. His American humour just didn't work.

Other slaughtered American take-offs include Dear John and The Office which really - really - doesn't translate.

The worst conversion ever though is Fawlty Towers. This show was based on Basil Fawlty, the hotel owner, and his contrasting relationships with his Wife, the porter, the maid and the resident guests. In the US version, they took Basil Fawlty out altogether!!!!!

I'm sure that in the UK we equally slaughter some US-based shows.

So Megs, are you specifically looking for people having a blog type rant on camera? I think most people on here would be too shy, so I think it'd be unlikely that everyone would get in on the action.

The problem is, what has anyone got to talk about? Obviously some people give their own opinion a deluded height of self importance, and reckon anything they say would be good digestable material for anyone else. I think most people would realise that nobody really gives a crap about what they're thinking. So really, you have to be witty, very intellectual or make a complete fool out of yourself for it to be worth doing.

Which is why I am wearing my mums underwear and reciting shakespear. Video up in 10 mins or so ....

Seriously though, what's your plan?

I'd like to see some bugs!

You know when your game your working on goes nuts, like maybe a physics object starts acting up, or AI get's all twitchy the sort of thing that is only really amusing for game developers.

So I'd say people should consider that if they don't want to show their mugs, they could show DB doing something mad instead.

like what about this unique idea i got now that doesn't have any similarity to "pure pwnage" at all:

a video documentary of a pro-programmer! woot.

it could be quite cool, if the "pro-programmer" isn't very talented at all. he buys dbpro and stuff, then he go make a game and try to sell it and what not. sometimes he come to the forum and laugh at the "noobs" here and other stuff.

i have thought about doing that myself, but i don't have a decent video camera/webcam, i only have a mobile phone with video recording ability. oh and i don't think people would like to hear me speak english anyway.

I wouldn't totally agree to that. I personally love a lot of British and US comedies. Red Dwarf probably just tops my comedy ladder but Friends (I'm a total girl), Soap, and Married with Children (when I was 16 everyone loved Christina Applegate) probably are just below it, and above most other UK comedies for me.

Cheers

I like most British humour, and a lot of US humour, like Weeds, My Name is Earl, Scrubs, Family Guy, Simpsons, Futurama... there's that much of it your bound to find something you like.

Now if the US will just stop giving everyone and their dog a damn sitcom, Chris Rock, that Wayans git, Chris Tucker, Pamela Anderson - these shows are not funny guys, we don't need to see another strong woman and stupid man style sitcom.

I miss Titus though, the one with the garage and Cynthia Watros and that dude from Prison Break with the massive head - kinda the first of that style sitcom.

Red Dwarf is the stuff of legend, but do you actually laugh at Friends? I can enjoy it but I'd describe it as "entertaining" comedy. i.e. Amusing, but you rarely actually laugh at it.

That card trick just uses very basic techniques...shuffling without actually shuffling, showing one card and turning another, and simple smoke & mirrors.

For example, the first card he picks is totally irrelevant, it makes no difference whatsoever which card he picks.

The "shuffle" is not actually a shuffle if you watch carefully. Other shuffles only happen when there is no need to actually track the cards.

When you first "see" the value of the Pink card, he's showing you the second card down.

Watch again, it's not that impressive

I like both to be honest, british humour is very different though. Apparently australian humour is different too.

Fallout: I can see why you would say that. I guess technically it WOULD just be some guy ranting in front of a camera. It's not like people don't have stuff to talk about - I see them writing page-long Blog entries! Surly they can say that in person on webcam, in a witty way, so I don't have to move my brain and actually read written Blog posts.

I think the "No one cares what anyone else has to say" mentality is quite popular nowadays, but it's not always true for me. I dig watching videos from people like this and this as they just crack me up. But on the other side, there's also a ton of boring crap stuff people post that no one really cares about. Sadly enough, everytime some hot girl posts up a video of her talking teary-eyed into the camera about boy trouble, she gets hundreds sympathetic comments from 14 year old boys who really just want to get into her pants.

What I personally wanna do is create my own sort of mini-review show along the lines of G4 Tech TV. I'd be lounging in my leather chair (presumably holding a glass of whisky in one hand) and reviewing a newly released game, touching on various features of the game and ranting about stuff I don't like, while mixing it with various clips of actual gameplay with a voiceover on top of it. I think it would sound like a funny attempt, as there are a ton of people on the forums that rant about certain aspects of a game they didn't like...now they can do those rants in the form of a video or video reply.

I dunno. Maybe.

Ok, I thought both of those vids were quite cool. The guy doing the impressions was pretty good, although I find impressions a bit boring, but worthy of a YouTube slot. The dating one was quite funny and true and I watched that one to the end.

I think they're both good enough to watch, but eh, the 1st guy has got a talent and the 2nd guy was actually pretty witty and had a good subject we can all relate to (well most of us) to talk about. My concern would be, if you got 20 people from this forum, maybe 1 of them, if you're lucky, will have the witt and subject matter to make a talking/blog type video on par with those ones.

I reckon you should give it a go tho. I mean, personally I wont judge you harshly, cos it's hard to sit down with the intention of making an amusing video. Most of us will have had our moments and put a bunch of people in hysterics as you rant about something, and if a camera man was about at the time you would have some gold material, but when it's contrived it's normally sh*t. So, I'd just say if a bunch of people gave this idea a go, I wouldn't really expect any quality.

Like I said though, it's probably worth a try. If you dont try, you wont find out. Maybe you'll be able to put together a good game rant, or maybe someone else will have to get something off their chests and contribute a vid. If I really feel like I need to rant on something, I might have a go and film myself and see how retarded I look. If I think it's not complete sh*te, I might post it up, but no promises. Nothing looks worse than someone who films themselves talking about something thinking their the mutts and actually everyone who's watching thinks they're lame. That's a death sentence in social respect.

So, good idea, but hard to make it anything other than 5 people who know each other vaguely from the internet and are chatting about boring sh*t. That's the challenge. Good content. If you got something you think is worth hearing about for some peeps, give it a try man.

Yeah, there's no way in hell I'm making one of those "So um...hi. I'm posting up my first vid...just wanted to say hi to you guys. Ok bye" videos. I guess I had the urge to make my own little game review show video project because I was jealous of Drew's Milk Paton thing as it's a complete retard show, but still somehow makes me giggle. I rekon I'll give it a shot once a cool new game comes out and I feel I have something to say on it.

(I had quite a few things to rant about after playing Guild Wars, but don't feel like doing that into a vid)

I don't see the harm in acting like a dork for 30 seconds on a webcam and putting it up on a site to get wierd comments from people. It's not like you're employed anyway...so you don't have to worry about the boss seeing it online.

That's true. Depends how much you care. I'm 50-50. Half of me says "fook it" I don't care if loads of people call me a cretin, as long as a few people get me and find it amusing, and the other half of me says, what's the point in internet suicide just to show off to a few people?

I'd like to make a show too as another random hobby, but I dont have anything to film and none of my friends are into that sort of thing. Ok, some would be up for it, but I can't be arsed to think up a good concept, organise a few people and then realise after hours of work and weeks of trying to organise people that its actually crap. I think you really need a gold idea that you know could be entertaining, but those are hard to come by.

If you come up with a good idea, share the wealth though mate. Maybe a few peeps would be willing to chip in and have a go to put together a little show.

I have liked a fair amount of British stuff over the years, Red Dwarf, The Young Ones, Flying Circus, and Fawlty Towers. SOme of the shows I have seen though make me think "This must have bombed there so they shipped it here. GAG!". My favorite stuff though is almost all from the US (I am assuming since they are likely animated in Korea or someplace), Simpsons, Family Guy, Futurama, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Robot Chicken, My name is Earl, All in the Family, and the Honeymooners.
