Hi All,

I'm on the lookout for a new cell phone. I want one sleek, with moderate features, for not more than 200 USD. So far, I think the Motorola RAZR V3 is the best choice. What do you think?

Friend of mine just chucked her Pink RAZR after only a year or so. Loved the design, but functionality is pants. PEBL is a fair bit better apparently (her replacement). GUI looks pretty much the same but it has some nice additions (address book and DOB for example). Dunno about new RAZRs though (esp. the V3i and phones like that).

Personally I found the V3's GUI looked a bit pants. Well compared to my oldish Sony S700i which is sharp as hell, but shaped like a brick. But it's the closest I've seen (well, the V3i) to my old beloved Motorola StarTac or V50 (loved those phones).

Cheers

Oh, what about the Samsung Ultra range? Looked at all 3 lately and they are very nice (good screen and v. thin). X820 (candybar) makes the V3 look like a seriously bloated phone. And the flip version is still a lot thinner than the RAZR. Very nice.

Cheers

Razrs drop calls all the time - they may look "in" but they're a pain in the behind parts. If I were looking for a new hip phone, I'd go with the one of the new LG Chocolate phones.

Razrs are a bit rubbish to be fair. I'm happy with mine, but it does drop calls after about 20 minutes. I dont know why. Functionality is a bit lame, and the keypad doesnt have a whole lot of life in it. For someone like me who sends 2 or 3 texts per week max, the keypad is ok, but I've noticed buttons getting stuck after 1 year. So, decent phone, ok but not great build quality, so I wouldn't recommend it.

i've got a v3 and im happy with it. before i had the motorola e1000 but the battery never lasted more than maybe 14 hours.

v3 battery lasts me 3 days now. if you want to play mp3s on the phone then you need the upgrade v3i since it has a mini sd slot.

while the v3 is still selling well motorola wont go away from its design. small and simple to use seems to be the winner on it.

Thanks for all the fast feedback! From what you've said, the RAZR isn't as good as one could hope. But do you think it would be okay for a guy (like me) who occaisionaly does some 5-10 minute calls and an SMS a day? Or is there a better phone (flip-style please) that would do a better job (and still be "in")?

Yeah, its plenty good enough for that. It works fine for the most part, just has a few bugs and probs, but fits well in the pocket.

You install the software dude, then hook it up to the compo via USB. I just got the V3x as part of my new deal, cos I decided I wanted to go with a flip phone again (cant be arsed with locking keypads with button combinations). I'll report back when I get it. Some reviews are really bad, and some are great. I'm not too picky, so I think I'll be happy with it.

I thought you were supposed to get those free on a CD? I got them free with my V3i. If I dont get them free with my V3x, I will execute the board of directors at Motorola.
