did you mean that your icons are rendered in 8bit?
perhaps re-install your gpu drivers then.

OK I searched on google for the meaning of GPU drivers, but with no result. Could you tell me what they are and how to reinstall them.

GPU is Graphics Processing Unit, in other words your Graphics card.

on my old computer i used to get this problem when playing games (mainly Thief, and DBC created games).

sometimes i had to re-install the GPU driver.

if you have nVidia as your graphics card, you can get the drivers at nVidia.Com.
if you have ATI, you can get them at Ati.com.

or if the graphics card is integrated in your main board, it is probably an intel card, so go to intel.com.

anyway you got it worked out, great

"GPU drivers" and changing desktop color depth confused an upcoming game programmer? Oooo I think that's gonna be a long road.

Thief didn't like to change settings back. I remember some game I used to play where I manually had to set the bit depth to 16 so I could play.

Didn't mean sound ummm, however I sounded. I've been straying from games and moving towards applications myself.
