This is probably about the worst idea I have ever heard. I am no gun control guy at all, in fact I support guns. But giving teachers a gun is not a good idea.
1. No, I don't believe it would make the schools any more safe, heck most of these recent shootings have ended in suicide anyhow, the people executing the shootings do not even care if they die.
2. I think even if a teacher is well trained with a weapon, if they are walking through the halls of a school with a gun holster on their hip, it would be no difficult task for a student to simply grab it from behind in a crowded hallway and shoot up whoever he wants.
3. There have been numerous stories of teachers raping and abusing their students, and other things like that. This could only help make this worse. And don't tell me everyone will be background checked, everyone who commits crime has a first offence.
4. It doesn't send a positive message to kids. At all. In fact some of the people who already have mental issues about shooting people, might even entertain thoughts of getting into a gun fight with a teacher.
And I can't even imagine even under a school shooting situation, a teacher drawing a gun on a student. That just seems wrong to me. Students shouldn't
fear their teachers, they should respect them. An arrogant teacher strutting about with a pistol on their hip doesn't demand respect.
No, if they want guns in school, that is for security guards and police, not teachers.
