Ok. So what's the most impressive thing you did this week?

(Just trying to find out how interesting you lot actually are.)

I know I'm terribly boring.

Included: Screenshot of 'Fighting Through Darkness' exe (from the WIP boards) running on Wine, on amd64 architecture Gentoo Linux. Yes, 3D works very well. Yes, it's smooth. Yes, the cursor is locked to the centre of the screen so I can't click any menu items, and the one time I managed to get and click the 'Start Game' button (NOT EASY) Wine threw an exception and crashed.

[edit] For anyone who cares, basically I d/l'd the DirectX April 2005 Full Installer (not Web Installer(!)) from www.microsoft.com, used cabextract on all the .cab files (UGH) (because the installer would claim to have succeeded while changing/adding exactly nothing), used winecfg to set environment to 'Windows XP' and on the Graphics tab forced a virtual desktop of 1024x768. Then it worked..somewhat. [/edit]

Is this sort of like "The Official blog your week thread"?

My week was extremly interesting. I spent all of it on my ass in front of the PC recovering from a neck injury, but am now back in action chasing squirrels through the woods.

Well, i guess that depends what you think is interesting eh?

let's see, umm, i just got back from the lake. I tried about 5 times to slalom by "dropping a ski" (slalom = 1 ski if you were wondering, obviously i can do 2 skis like most people) but after i dropped the ski i could never get my back foot back into that slot before i fell over... once i was balancing on one foot for about 5 seconds

anyway, i had some really interesting wipeouts.

i was told by the people in the boat (couldn't tell at the time) that during one wipe out i did a horizontal roll in mid-air, then landed on my back, i only remembered the landing on my back part though

Hmm. Finished two tunes, past the first few stages of recruitment into a top IT company (CV and online IQ test), kicked my mates ass at pool. Nothing particularly special. I would like to say I made a giant orange sparrowhawk and harrassed the local military camp with blindingly bright dive bombing runs, but alas I fear my 4 channel RC transmitter wouldn't be sufficient to control such a beast.

I've had two 18th birthday parties in two days - and on both occasions I've gotten so drunk I can't actually stand up. I've had to spell check this about 4 times just to make sure it was legiable! Whey!

Played a decent show last night and talked a bit with Sylvia Massy (for those who dont know, she produced the first TOOL album), who kept saying we should really get produced... dont know if that means by her or not, but hey.

Well, lemme see...

Finished a vip cut of one song. Got the news that another song would be featured as track of the day in ambient at garageband. Sang a middle e without cracking. Bought a pimp shirt. Hit on a few girls. Discovered Counter Strike Source. Ended up right in the middle at a fencing tournament last weekend (which wasn't too bad considering how strong the tournament was). Anddd I guess that was it

I went out for my birthday yesterday. The club had a beer drinking contest up on the stripper stage. It was me and 4 other big angry young military guys. I slammed my beer, and of course I won. I proved that I'm not just a drunk, but a drunk with skills

I filmed the first episode of a new series with Paton, fixed up websites, played Poker lastn night and worked all week 9-4. Went to girlfriends birthday party sleepover and had pizza at a resteraunt with a friend from Southampton.

It was an unusually good week though. Usually they are pretty samey.

I take it you are American. Pretty much everywhere else can legally drink in bars a lot younger (apart from the places where they chop your hands off and stuff). It's 18 in the UK. And a fair bit younger than that in your own house or somesuch. Just to balance it up a little we aren't allowed to learn to drive until we are 17. And I don't think you can get married without parent's consent until you are 18 (and 16 for sex).

I once heard that alcoholics in Russia are advised to use beer to recover as they don't really consider it real alcohol (like Vodka). Whether or not that is true doesn't matter; it's cool enough that it should be true.

I awoke, a burning light swelled in my face blinding me, my body lay unresponsive, unable to move, to reply. The chains of opression were upon me, and I was but a subject, to be bent to their obediance. On me lay a harsh material, twisted around me as a python its prey, it was smothering me. I struggled against them, thrashing back and forth in constant turmoil as I attempted to break free. The world seemed to exert the weight of a thousand atmosphers upon me as I slowly rose struggling at every step of the way, the light, the material, the chains, the earth, all acting in unison forcing me back down. I hear a blaring noise, incessantly shrieking in my ear, and at this point I muster all my energy left, open my eyes, and get out of bed.

Oh, and I can't say what the most impressive thing I did this week. Sorry. The second most impressive thing I did I can't show you, but lets just say it's better out than in. Yes, not *all* full time programmer geeks are having an extreme sports sex and drug fuelled weekend Maybe next month when my back is feeling better

Why? I learned a long time ago that in any situation where I need to know it to more than 2 or 3, I also need a calculator to do anything with it - which itself knows PI to far more accuracy than I do!

I escorted Mrs Scraggle to York University for their open day on thursday. She want's to be a mature student and gain a degree in Social Work.

So, what's impressive about that?

Well, I fell in love with the campus and made a decision to give up work next year and become a mature student myself. Perhaps a little late in life but turning 40 while at university could be a lot of fun.
Both of us living the student life again ... sounds fantastic!

Cause it is cool to know massive amounts of PI, and intelligence is measured by the ability to recite excessivly large yet utterly usless numbers.

i only know it to the 15th decimal but that's enough to be moderately cool.

One time the parents told the children which houses to go to, probably in mass hysteria over their kids getting kidnapped and the like, so I had this big load of sweets and choccies (cos they didn't come to my house as I don't know them, as I don't have kids). Didn't eat a dinner for like a week Probably need dentures now...

I just asked the same question to three guys I saw on the elevator, since they all looked happy about something.
The young man said "I had a great woman this week."
The middle-aged one said "I had a great steak this week."
The old man said "I had a great bowel movement this week."
