I'm wondering whether to give my Gamecube just one last spin... I don't think Zelda needs the Wii remote.

He is saying that he doesn't think that the Wii remote adds any gameplay elements to that particular game. There should be no real advantage (except maybe graphicly) between the two versions. So, what is the difference?

What he probably meant to say was "I don't think Zelda needs the Wii remote." I.e. - the Zelda game doesn't gain anything from being played on the Wii.

Personally, I disagree. The Wii version will support the wiimote natively, and I'm sure I've heard rumours about it having a small amount of wii-only gameplay. I could be wrong.

I've preordered the Wii and Zelda with it, so the question is kind of moot for me.

Can you use a normal pad with the WII? or do you HAVE to use the remote?

If you buy the Wii version, you HAVE to use the remote. If you buy the Gamecube version, you can play it on the Wii, but it will only work with a Gamecube controller. Personally, I am waiting for a review of the Wii version before I decide. Part of me thinks it will be really fun to use the bow and arrow and hookshot with the remote, but part of me thinks that swinging my arm to swing the sword may get tiring.

Isn't the remote the USP? Why buy a Wii otherwise?

I've just heard a lot of journos say, over the past few months, that Zelda:TP isn't a killer app on the Wii because the controls aren't as intuitive as the Gamecube version.

I've played every zelda since the OoT on N64 and I've never once thought "hmm, I think the control system could be better".

Yeah - that was a pain - but I got on with it - all they needed was an option to invert the Y axis though. The rest of the controls were fine.

When I get my Wii I've decided to wait until Xmas to get TP. A few reasons being I will fall behind in school (Red Steel and Excite Truck will impede enoughh), and well... while the graphics are better and its more immersive than the Gamecube version... I already know that the NGC version is solid from the e3 '05 demo that I played, but the Wii version looks like it has some problems of its own.)

The Wii will have a 'classic' controller sold separately which can take the place of the Wiimote on most games.

Well, I finally decided to create a website that really reflects what kind of programmer I really are: OneManBand software: http://www.ombsoft.com

You can also plug a GC controller into the Wii - not sure if LOZ:TP will use it though.

I'll definately get the Wii version. LOZ as a launch game? Count me in.

On Ocarina of Time you push the analog stick up to point the bow down.

As opposed to Goldeneye/Perfect Dark etc. where you push it up to point the gun up.

Yes, the Wii will have a classic controller, but you will not be able to use it on Zelda unfortunately.
