Hi all this is an Ak47 I created in wings 3d.
It took me around 3 hours.
The model has 1666 polygons.(not triangulated)
It's still untextured but that may be done when i have time.
I'm thinking of creating a few model packs (meaning some for the community)

Here is a screenie

crits and comments welcome

I've decided to create entity packs instead(personal reasons)
including modern entities, world war entities and futuristic entities For the community.

Well anyway i forgot to include that i modeled a used casing where it would eject out because I don't like it coming out via code.

Comments anyone?

Looks like a very nice lefty so far. Pretty flat along the handguard and reciever though.

Can you post a HUD view simulation pic?

Render an angle as you would actually see it in first-person view.

It's a good start, TJ. I think that if you work on the forearm a bit and revisit the sights you'll have a good looking model there.

Theres tons of AK reference out there so it shouldn't be hard to find.

Are you going to have the bolt animate since it's left-handed ejecting?

Well I can't find a very close up picuture reference
(I spent hours trying to find some)

yes, I am. I included a spent casing inside the gun so it would jolt out. But the problem is the poly count is high because i HAD to triangulate it in linthwrap

I've been trying to keep the poly count as low as possible, but it's just too high.

Any suggestions?

You could probabily stand to take some polys out of the cylinders on the barrel and gas tube to give you a little breathing room. The front sight isn't completely hooded either so you can probabily shave some there as well. The magazine also looks very smooth so that's another spot. It's likely that it won't be so high on-screen when you have it in FPSC, so having the curve be a little rougher won't really affect the final look. I know it sucks making your curved surfaces less smooth but it'll make a big difference if it lets you free up geometry for other uses.

I should let you know one potentially critical thing though if you plan to have custom brass. If you do that, you should really consider having the ejection port on the correct side or else it will take several frames to travel across the screen which will cause your rate of fire to be slower due to long animations in the end-fire or automatic-fire gunspec slot.

Google image search: AK-47 sight. If you cant turn up anything I'll post you links. I did a quick google search after my first post here and found several.

ak47.net (aka ar15.com) also has tons of pics but you need to know a little bit about what you're looking for.
