I thought a while back that there were several forum members that wanted a 3rd person POV option and I figured out how to do it.
I made a character and I made it a weapon.
Now unlike most weapons you can see the whole character on the screen giving you the sense of a third person POV.
The download contains the character/weapon "Feisty the Snowman".
To use, just unzip and place the folder in the gamecore\guns folder.
Then right click on the Player Start marker and pick Feisty as your weapon.
Then you walk around and smack people as Feisty the Snowman.

Quite good but you can tell its supposed to be an FPS but its probably the best you could do in FPSC,Thanks though.

Wow looks really cool! I have been trying to do this for awhile the same way you did it, my problem was polys though, with a gun and a char. Anyway this could lead to a huge advancement for fpsc, keep it up.

Can the snowman hold weapons? This could be the begining of a Abram tank...(brainwave just hit me)

No.The snowman itself is the weapon model.
If I would have made a gun for his hand then he would fire that weapon.
He just does a melee attack.

Hey FredP, Im working on a white ball flak object so our little friend Feisty the Snowman can throw balls of snow at his enemies.

Edit: Ok, maybe some explosive snowballs instead.

Good idea! Pretty simple, but if someone were to develop this in a different way, possibly using FPSC's default models, whats stopping this from evolving?

Lack of animation state calls through gunspec, I'd imagine. If the view was fairly close in and over-the shoulder, you could get around lack of speciffic HUD states for jumping, strafing, etc.

When you switched weapons, there would likely be a noticable hitch. When you pick up items, you'd go 1st person (no biggie really).

When you get up close to an NPC it would look awkward though if they were all scaled down, it might be passable. But still, it would have the sensation of one of those dudes on a foosball table.

Expectations. People would continually find stuff to complain about because of lack of knowledge about how the animation system is limited (Why doesn't he reach out to turn on a switch, etc).

Lastly, the people with the know-how or ability are likely busy with other things.

I think FredP made an excellent design decision by going with the snowman. I think i'll even download it and give it a whirl because it looks like a fun item. Thanks for the freebie

You're welcome,guys.
Nothing is stopping someone from using an FPSC or imported character to do something like this.
I originally started with a character and the FPSC skeleton.
But the skeleton didn't work too well for a weapon.
While it is great for characters,as Errant AI pointed out there are far less animations for a weapon and all of those joints in the skeleton were not necessary.
And the reson I made the snowman model is so I could distribute it.
The other model I am working with I can use in my games but it is not mine so I won't post it here.
The theory was simple and this gives people a starting point to make their own 3rd person view characters.
If you do use An FPSC character model or any other sort of biped for a weapon I highly recommend you make your own skeleton for it and animate it.
Zeppelin,
Let me know if you get the snowball flak working.

BTW another limitation I have run into is that FPSC only registers one firing animation.I can make more for a weapon but only one will actually cause damage.
I hope that somewhere down the line that TGC addresses this because this severely limits what one can do when making weapons.
