I like to write complex scripts for the entities and characters in my games. Sometimes, my ideas go outside the boundaries of FPSC. surprisingly a lot of which actually work. One thing I haven't figured out is how to get the following script...

;aiused
usekey =
ifused =
ifusednear =

... to properly work in the .fpe files of dynamic characters.

I want my script to say for example:

:state=3,plrhaskey=1:activateifused=1,state=4

I know this works with objects and keys, but can I implement this strategy with characters? If so, please tell me how someone. thanx!

I've been playing with this idea too! I was going to try and use it in te adventure level design competition.

As far as I can tell, it's not possible, although have you considered changing the character to NOT be a character?

no, I found a way around it though. I wanted dialog between the Plr and a guard in my game. By talking with the guard you gain access to another area of the level. I accomplished it by making the dialog between the Plr and a dynamic entity which is near the guard. Same effect and I can use the plrhaskey and activateifued command/actions! you can't tell during game play, it works great.

I just use a trigger zone or something around the NPC.

with trigger zones, you have to be inside the zone. with entities you can be in any given distance from the entity. for example I can say

:state=0,plrdistwithin=90:hudshow=dialog1,state=1

However, I do use trigger zones in my levels as well. The are very useful.
