So I suppose trying to organize a Disco club here is out of the question?

for the refernce, my favorite Disco is, "Play that Funky Music White Boy."

for those who enjoy Disco, or need a laugh, heres the disco version of Beethoven's Fifth.

your interpretation of me laughing at your post couldnt be further then my music tastes.
Im eclectic bar country and western.
I found the post very funny tho.
your insight that it was negative is your interpretation, not mine.
perhaps your confusing disco with electroclash or mashups with the later posts.
disco hailing from the seventies is probably before your time as well
who knows..

I didn't make that Disco Beethoven's Fifth. one of my firends saw the title and sent it to me.

Quote: "country and western."

OH GOD! your bringing up so many bad memories of my dad trying to teach me to play the banjo! he tuaght my sister to play the guitar, and I still hate him for that! she thought she was good, but she sucked. she was playing that god blasted things all day! I could have learned to play the banjo, but found it repulsive and would not learn.

And although I'm not much for country/western music, I do enjoy some old Cowboy movies such as Palerider. I also enjoy "Open Range," "The Outlaw Josie Whales," and a few more. My sig is actually a quote from a cowboy movie. if you can guess which one, you get a theoretical pat on the back!

EDIT: Bleh! todays not my day! I've had to edit all of my posts becuase of typos!

Just pictured Zaibatsu doing the finger-pointed-in-the-air-John-Travolta-Saturday-Night-Fever thing. Yep. It was pretty disturbing. Pretty disturbing indeed. Might need to watch TV to get it out of my head. TV is good. Not good enough though. Need something with a bit more kick. Rubbing alcohol would hurt. Been there done that. Is it dangerous to wash your eyes out with dish soap? Yeah, probably. Don't know what to do now. Guess I should find a disco record collection and set it on fire. Yeah. Fire's probably my best bet. Can't go wrong with fire.

Disco music has a powerfull effect on me, it makes me happy. If a family member would cease to live, i would smile and sing along to a disco song 5 mins after.

Disco music gives me a headache (saying that I head bang to heavy music, then again I had a head ache before seeing Down and didn't afterwards), which is why if I have a part for my 18th, I'll tell the DJ to trash his Aqua, Abba, Steps and other stuff and take a pick from my personal collection, and some indie stuff for the indies.

rofl! That was a great reaction to a "lol"!

Heeeyyy man, I personally don't dig the disco music white boy. I do not sport a 'fro, neither do I wear glittery silk pants and dancing boots. BUT, I would be real upset man if I watched a 70s cop movie that didn't have a few disco tunes to funk it up, as well as a good dose of funk of course, ma brother.

Sorry, the answer to your question is yes, there is nobody else left in the world who likes disco, except for you. But I dont think it's crap. I just think its had its day, and belongs in 70s cop gang and street movies.

I listen to disco sometimes - just as I listen to rock, country, 80's-pop, classical, 8-bit (not much), metal, industrial (mostly NIN), and most other things. Generally not 90's or modern pop, or Brit-pop, or that other depressing chart stuff that came out around that time. Disco makes me happy.

I dont like disco, it sucks. But yeah, there's more than just rock if you listen closely enough, things like when Benjamin said, but also things like orchestral music. It's a bit stereotypical of a kid to say "pfft, orchestras schmorchestras", does that mean that the theme tune to Star Wars sucks? Nope.

You might say jazz sucks because it's boring, but if you do, you haven't listened properly to it. All those "rock" bands (I'm talking Sum 41 and stuff here) are really, more boring that ever, because all they do is use a few powerchords and that's their song done. Jazz is well crafted, and much more complex, and isn't boring what-so-ever (especially if you listen to really jazzy saxophone players)

jazz being a mostly on the fly style of music creation is hardly crafted like todays standards.

however go back in time to stuff like master blaster by stevie wonder and you will feel the funk of forty thousand rastas

Indeed. Good jazz requires a lot more skill and natural musical talent than probably any other genre, apart from classical of course. You can't really compare jazz musicians with the likes of AC/DC, or many other rock bands for that matter.

The irony here is, a lot of 'disco' music was mass-manufactured rubbish, by people who could hardly sing at all. They simply had no talent.

So if anything, disco music is a bunch of uncultured baboons in itself; and it definitely isn't a music genre I would class as 'cultured' anyway, no matter how much I loved it (which I don't)

Classical music however, is a different matter. That's something I would describe as more 'cultured'

Disco music was to the 70s and early 80s what boy/girl band pop music was to the 90s and 2000s.

Assuming this comment was designed to counter what I said about mass-manufacture - I know what era 'disco' music originates from. But a lot of it seems to be 'manufactured', as well as sounding very similar to other disco music.

Recently I attended a relatives birthday party - and she had a DJ doing some music for her party. A lot of it was 'disco' music from that era - and quite a lot of the tracks sounded very similar, albeit from different artists

I believe if anything, Jeku's comment only reinforced the mass-manufacturing statement.

Zaibatsu - no offence intended, but the way you're reacting to some people with differing music tastes to you, I'd suspect trolling.

I don't think you need to take negative feedback so seriously, as what tinkergirl said as long as you enjoy the music you're into, peoples' opinions really do not matter

I'm a Metalhead, but can't help but humming to some of the old disco and smiling in appreciation of how retro it all sounds.

Early Bee Gee's, Village People (easy on the jokes guys ) and Boney M spring to mind as good "point your fingers up and flare those flares" romps.

Okay, this insanity needs to end! It's disco that we're discussing here. DISCO! Disco and country are the butt of every joke for a reason! Name three things that disco has given us that have changed the world in a good way, and so help me god if anyone says "bellbottoms" I'll dump chicken grease on Apollo!

Just kidding. Disco really did help re-structure the music industry in a positive way. Really. It's a great style of music. Really. FOR ME TO POOP ON!

sorry, I'm bored. But hey, if people pick on me for being a PS2 fan, then I get to pick on you for being a disco fan. It's only fair!

Wrong mood. Sunday is all about recovering from the last few days and regretting the fact that tomorrow is monday. And Radiohead is too depressing. Come midday I might put on some Megadeth to perk me up I've done Metallica to death for the last decade and a half or so. Bit of breathing space me thinks...

Yesterday I listened to St. Anger for the first time. Better saying, I listened to half of St. Anger. Now, I am pretty open minded to bands changing their style. I can put up with the tin-can drums. I can endure "no solos" from Hammett (I believe he's probably being paid by Lars and Hetfield on a per-solo basis and they are trying to cut down costs). I can even forgive the punk overtones.

But WHY THE HELL ARE THE SONGS SO BLOOOOODY LONG? 8:00 is ok if you're Dream Theater and you cram a lot of music into it, but it's an eternity when each song is really a one trick pony like in St. Anger.

After albums like Ride The Lightning, Master of Puppets or even the Black Album it's hard to understand how someone like Metallica can get it so wrong.
