Ive just had my new built, which is a pile of crap because firstly, it wouldnt let me online, so I formatted the drive to do a new install of xp because it skipped the networking. Now the hard drive is buggered, missing NTLDR. The PC wont accept any of my other hard drives, it just crashes them and reboots.

So Iam pissed off that its not working after I spent £600.

Ive felt like smashing it up a few times already.

But why wont it accept other drives, why does the system crash them?

Why did you reformat in the first place... Windows lets you set up a network anytime you want...

Either the install disc is bad (it happens) or there's a compatibility issue.

NTDLR is the file on the Windows HD that the boot sector will be told to load when the computer starts: obviously it isn't there because you have reformatted!

You need to tell your BIOS to boot from a CD-ROM (so you can reinstall windows, because this is what I assume you're trying to do) ahead of your hard-disk - you shouldn't get this error then.

Rest assured - this error isn't necessarily a sign your HD is buggered, and its perfectly normal behaviour after a complete reformat.

I've gotten that error a few times in the past randomly outa nowhere. Simply repair the install and it should be ok. I didn't bother to mention it since he already reformatted.

its not the HD bios, its the motherboard bios. And you don't need to get into that unless you need to change your boot order to start with the cdrom. Plus, I think F8 brings up the boot menu. To get to your bios, it should say what to press when its booting. Usually its the delete button for me.

next time before formatting the windows disk would have added the required networking to machines that didnt have certain components.

Well I have a belkin 54g pci card, I installed the software first (without the card in the slot) then shut the pc down and fitted the card. Turned on the pc again and the hardware was installed for it.

The wireless icon is now red, it has gone green but to only go red again and not connect to any network.

It works on my old pc... so I dont know why its not working on my new pc. Would having a different motherboard stop it working?

I have a asus socket 939 for amd cpu, AGN5X.

Is it wireless? It might not be getting a good connection. Try moving your computer closer to your router and see if it works better. Perhaps you don't have enuogh power to supply the to card the from your PSU. How many watts is that?

Did you get the updated drivers? (you never know it might not like something in your new system)

Is everything totally connected properly? Stupid question, but sometimes people make mistakes

Try another PCI slot. The mobo might not be working perfectly.

Do you have any integrated LAN on your mobo? Perhaps its conflicting.

Just a few little checks you could try out... Good luck

I have only just got back from holiday, today.

My old pc works fine with the wireless card, which runs on a 300W power supply.

The card wont work correctly with my new pc, which runs on a 350W. I have tried other pci slots and the board does not have any built in LAN.

The drivers are also updated.

--

The icon for the wireless pci card shows up and trys to connect, but fails and you then have to restart to get any responce out of it again.

Its annoying because I cant use my new pc for the net and therefore I cant send WIP's of my work to friends and so on.

check to see if windows is controlling your wireless settings instead of the manufacturers software interface.
I guess its karma, your not really getting contextual help as you might have burnt some toes around here with stupid comments. oh well good luck.
