And white with blue eyes...Do the artists realise where he lived and was born (assuming he did exist, I believe he did, but not in the way stated)

As for Jesus being a hippy, well Charles Manson was hippy like, had his whole family of people thinking he's Jesus and doing his bidding...Amazing things happen when you give hippies LSD

This thread shouldn't be locked. It's just an optical illusion, and a rather good one, IMO.

I hate how we can't discuss anything on this forum. I mean, a lot of interesting things go on here, but there is so much censorship. The reason that the threads are locked valid because many people can't objectively discuss something which which they disagree with or hold a strong belief about. That is unfortunate.

However, calling for a thread to be locked arbitrarily isn't good at all. It dries up interesting topics needlessly.

If you live in London and go to the serpentine gallery in Hyde park you can see that picture painted on one of the walls. The've got three of them, in cyan, magenta and yellow, so if you stand in the correct spot, jesus seems to appear in colour.

Yeah, saw that one years ago. Infact I think I myself have posted it on these forums at least twice. That and the "manimal" hand warp illusion, which is also ace. Oh, and that colour church thingy I posted. Basically you look at a negative type image for a while then it flicks to black and white. For a few seconds (as long as you can "hold" it) it appears totally in colour. I've checked and it's never really in colour, and the negative image is not really a negative, so I'm guessing some clever gimmeky algorithms to do with the way eyes work. Very nice.

Cheers

Oooh its that, my old tutor was a Jesus freak and showed it to us as proof that Jesus exists, then I got him to read a passage from the Satanic bible, so now he's going to hell because of me.

Which idiotic statement? The Jesus isn't white one, the idea of contingency and Jesus (Technically it is an if, I believe he did exist though), satanism reading Jesus freak or the Charles Manson being believed to be Jesus...Being an idiot I can't keep track of which ones are most idiotic I'm assuming you mean the contingency one, fair enough, I can see how that would conjure up a religious discussion, I'm sorry, please don't hit me...I'm scared of you...

What? Really? Erm... Show him the one with those monks or whatever walking up those steps in a continual loop. That will really **** him up.

Oooh ooh, put a picture of Jesus on a kite and fly it above him. Oh yes I bet he is really fun at Christmas...

I would, but he's retired now, also it would scare him, he's scare of pidgeons, but when they went on the Poland trip, he was caught feeding the pidgeons, tut, some phobia, as if I'd feed a spider, I'd running screaming like a school girl on helium whilst being castrated. (Don't say it, girls don't have the dangly and therefore cannot be snipped)

Jesus was a very real person. I'm Jewish, and therefore don't think he was or is g-ds son, but he was definitely a political figure. If you look, you can find quite a bit of info on what Jesus historicaly did.

Nice allusion. I was surprised it looked better on the wall than on the screen.

Now, I shall convert you all to Judaism. (jk lo. Jews are not known for converting people, and our conversion process is a b*tch)

Ah, I didn't realise they found any proof of there being a Jesus, fair enough, I did believe he exists, like you, just not in the way they say he did, but that's because I'm not a Christian.

Just you try it, boy! Unless you have magical conversion powers, like Milkshape or Deep Exploration, then well I guess its inevitable really...

Yah, not too many people out there believe Jesus never existed. Even Muslims, Buddhists etc. agree that he was a man.

But I hate how they depict him in art--- almost always the same (white dude with long brown hair), and probably not how he was in real life. Maybe it's so he can be instantly recognizable.

Possibly, I mean Jesus in reality would have been dark and middle eastern. It also could be the colour white is symbolic for purity and that's what Jesus is seen as

As I understand it, Jesus took on the appearance of a white hippy-ish guy from the Italian painters, who portrayed him as Italian because a lot of people back then portrayed him as the nationality of the country they're from, and for some reason the Italian images stuck. At least that's how the history channel made me understand it, I could be wrong. Makes sense though I guess.

You used "more" and "the bee gees" in the same sentence. Evil. Pure evil.

Maybe Jesus was Italian, you never know his parents might have moved from Italy...

I'd do a Jesus as an Italian impression, but I know somebody will take it the wrong way...

Yeah... No one in Italy in those days would want to be a Jew. The Romans conquered Israel, and the Jews were not quite as popular as the Greeks. Jews thought it was their darkest hour- that's why people were looking for a messiah is the first place.

Sorry for the run-on sentence. My grammar is usually fairly decent but eh...

I have a feeling that somehow someone will come to the conclusion that I said jesus was Italian, and before that happens, I didn't. lol I know how these debates come about and I can already smell one formulating

I'm wondering though... what if it wasn't just italian painters? Like, there's christians all over the place and most of them were in places like England and France and other parts of Europe with white people. So why did the history channel say it was *just* Italian painters' portraits? Now I need to find this out lol.
