...where you can post team requests, job requests, media, programs, games, etc.

I'll call it 'The Gaming Industry Headquarters'... I started out something new with a homemade template...

http://giheadquarters.bravehost.com/index.html

Lol, read the news at the top to see what I need in this topic...

Thanks,
Xeno

P.S. I'm definetly not any master web designer or maker or wahetevr

edit: just an idea, not trying to top TGC or something.. making it a little handy dandy area to resort your self to when you are looking for stuff

That is, if people decide to contribute

The person didn't really abandon it...there was simply no demand for a site like that.

I'd give you some pointers, sure. Got any sort of general layout in the works?

Uhh... well, its pretty simple. You see the thing in the middle? It's all the news. To the left is the navigation. I've completed the team request form, and soon will lie the link to that page.

You navigate through all that... and... stuff...

I'm looking for a few a good colors of text that will math with the gold background. I tried using a color wheel and came out with the blue color in the headlines. The black text goes pretty good with it too.

Sound good so far?

Weee the team request thingie is up. You can send the form to me... but I'll have to manually post every team request... lol

I don't mind the work. But I don't have the section to post all the team requests yet. So whatever you send will be useless

Like the look of it so far Akicat?

there was a time when i had a go at doing something similar.
http://www.dbtoolz.50megs.com/

Many years ago i had a site called dbtoolz (major dbc days)
anyway a lot of wombat crap went on between blitz and darkbasic between the programmers.
it was neck and neck for a long time until blitz went a bit slower in development.
Many people back then were indeed amazing keyboard cowboys.

aristid used to amaze us with stuff, a 14 year called magellen would astound you with stuff he demonstrated. the names go on and on.

some are still here, gday wolf,las6, tdkman etc.. forgive me who i missed.

If i recall as well at the time the german programmers had it really down
with a few demos that rocked the house.

The point being is that it is possible but it will take up valuable game dev time.
It takes a unique person to gauge the whole community nowadays as its easily 5 fold in size, as well as target a website for use away from this forum.

We used to have a few forums and that divided the community for a while, some bridged across, some stayed on one forum, the alt forum went through a few Phoenix bursts after the first mystery bomb hit that community.

people are wary of leaving here and losing connectivity with the products community forum.
I guess when you want an answer solved you chose the smartest group in a forum which can make it so attractive to visit.

I say go for it, but keep in mind whats ahead for you if you build an unofficial repository / forum
dont be discouraged if it doesnt pan out.

Haha, guys, I'm not trying to make this some big big big site, just something people can use...

Yeah yeah Cash and Oddmind, I get it. Kinda like Gamedev. Who would come here if they can go to Gamedev? But I'm basing this mostly on DB.

That darkland game looks promising...

Well, I put up the area that I post all of the team requests. Any one have any feedback as to what else I should put other than the following categories?

Team Requests
Job Requests
Media
Programs
Games

Lol, you can flame me if you want. I'm a ninja, so I'm flame thrower proof.

You know, I think it'd be better to use div tags for each of your contents, instead of resizing the web browser, to make the background seem not so background-ish. If you really want, I can help you with coding. I know PHP, and I know how to acess Mysql DB's with it. So yah.. I've got too much time on my hands anyways.

i would rename it darkdev or something similar; cause i can see a number of people getting to it from a websearch and getting a tad more than irritated about the name.

should try to keep it all small and a design that fits the needs of the site and users.

@Indi, wow I had no idea that your old site was still floating around the net! I remember how you'd freely produce some amazing-looking logos for anyone who asked, and I also remember visiting that site almost religiously because it was such a comprehensive portal to all things DB. I remember the Darkland game (too bad it was never fully released) and a few other oldies that were heavily discussed at the time (i.e., "Graveyard Cat", "Billy Bouncer", and that one game where you played as a forever bouncing ball). Sure wish I could get a hold of some of those vintage games and demos again. Aristid was brilliant, I think I still have his collection of movement tutorials somewhere on my computer.

@Xenocythe, good luck with your project!

Ok. Just remember, I'm not a designer. Just plain coder. So, uh, I couldn't help you with color schemes very much. But you could use one of those color things. Where you insert one color, and it gives you other colors that you can use.

Or:

Hehe, yeah, thanks Dabip. I wasn't really thinking you were a designer. If you took a look at the code I use for the website so far, you would be terrified, and probably help me cuz you feel bad for me

That is a great tool. I used to match colors by hand, but that will greatly improve my layout efficiency!
