Raven, I thought you didn't complete HL2? Or did I imagine that? Just wondering.

Quote: "Find me an example of these in Doom 3:"

- Drivable vehicles
SDK, Quake 4, Resurrection of Evil, Monorail Car
(I would've skipped the whole 2-3hours of pointless point-to-point driving if I could've)

- Enemy vehicles
SDK, Quake 4
(Would love to know where the hell they're used in HL2. You have that helicopter and wierd bug dropship.. in neither case can you steal them to use yourself; the vehicles act far more like enemy characters than vehicles)

- Commanding a squad (Rebels and Ant Lions)
SDK, Quake 4, Resurrection of Evil
(Oh yeah the multitude of "go" and "piss off" commands certainly make it an indespensible 5minutes of gameplay both provide.)

- Many NPC allies
Sentry Bot, Beta Squad, Several Scientists

- Close, developed NP ally characters (Alyx etc.)
Sergant Kelly

- Wide open fields
Parking Lot, Delta Labs Monorail, External Areas, Boss Areas

- Open street fights
No streets, but you come close with several areas.
(No different to the many many corridor fights)

- Physics based puzzles
First of many, is one where you have to clear a Biohazard room so you can pass through with a crane.

- Sniping
SDK, Quake 4
(again didn't use this feature in HL2 there was never any need)

You've got to be thinking of someone else. I completed the day of release. Not played Episode 1 or 2 though.

What do you mean, "SDK, Quake 4"?

I don't understand... are you saying that these things were present in there? But not in Doom 3 the actual game?!

IT would be hard to have play episode two, seeing as it hasn't come out yet.

Quote: "minimal story-driven FPS games "

You can't mean HL2. The only reason I enjoy playing it is that it's SOO story driven. In general I don't like fps games. There's story to be found all over the place, if you're willing to pay attention.

Also, doom tries to make you feel claustrophobic, while hl2 is all about making you feel like you're in a big open environment (even if you aren't).

Quote: "What do you mean, "SDK, Quake 4"?"

I was thinking the same thing. Those definitely aren't the names of vehicles or commanding squads.

"Quick! Let's hijack those quake 4's and snipe with them as a squad!!!"

"Keep back guys, he's got a software development kit... and... HOLY CRAP IS THAT A QUAKE 4??!?! Run!!"

----

Completed on the day of release, eh?

I thought you completed it several months before release??

Or am I imagining things?

simply one of the most stunning games I have ever played. I'm not a console fanboy, in fact i still reckon the PC is the ultimate games machine, but this game really rocked my world.

however, it might be one of the best games ever played and seen by mankind this far, but when this game is long forgotten like so many other greats, we'll still be playing defender, asteroids, bubble bobble, tetris and bust a move etc for that much needed 'quick fix'.

Have you catually played HL2, or are you just guessing? I mean for Gods sake, there are Striders, the Combine helicopters, the crab synth, the dropship, the gunship, the scanners (if you count them as vehicles) the Combine APV, and the mortar synth.

And in what way do they act like 'characters'?

I don't understand this. The entire "point" of having vehicles is getting from point A to B. Doing it on foot or in a vehicle is completely a different experience, but neither is pointless. The storyline in HL2 makes the vehicle sections meaningful, and I actually thought the physics for the boat and car were pretty good.

But you didn't mention Doom 3 in your post--- we were talking about HL2 vs. Doom 3 here, not Quake 4

Weird.

Future Shop in Canada (US' Best Buy equivalent) has a GREAT 360 offer for today only.

Regular Xbox Premium console is $499.

This deal costs $450 and you get: 4 games including Gears of War & GRAW + 2 controllers

And get this, the console is guaranteed to be in stock, or you get a $30 gift card. Pretty cool.

Yeah that's right. I got the collectors edition too. I've not watched the DVD yet though. Been too busy playing It also comes with 48 hours of free xbox live gold. But I already have a 12-month gold membership, so no real use yet. hehe.

So all weekend my friend and I played through the hardcore campaign on co-op, and then we went online and at first we really sucked, but after about 15 hours straight you tend to get pretty good.

Thats why I suck at Halo 2 online! I only play about 15 minutes before giving up since i am always owned. But most of the time I just don't have time..

I got it. It isn't as great as I thought it would be. But I surpassed Jeku's points within the first few hours of having it.

It's my favourite game on the system so far. If you enjoy games like Animal Crossing and Harvest Moon, you will surely enjoy Viva Pinata.
