No more participants are needed, thanks again.

I'm doing a study for my statistics class. To participate in this study all you must do is read the scenario, and then answer two quick questions by posting your answers here in this thread.
BUT, be sure to post your answers in a code snippet box.

The Scenario

Question #1

Question #2

Thanks in advance.
And, sorry again to all those that filled out the form before.

Hope my info will help. I can't see you getting many left handed people though, and why only 25?

I received your info, thankyou . And really the only reason for the 25 is because "freewebs.com" will only allow me 25 submissions, and I'm not sure if that is for each day or month or whatever. And 25 is good anyways, but if I don't get anything interesting I could always continue it in this thread. Anyways thanks for participating.

You shouldn't really say anything about it, as comments can physcologically influence the participant

i believe you'll find westerners will choose the left path, and people who read/write arabic as their primary language will take the right path.

this is because people like things in order of what they read. its psycology we learnt in drama. the audience feels more comofortable watching events happen on the left side of the stage than the right.

if a sequence of events is being performed, the audience subconsiously enjoys it more if it is being played out from left to right, simply because this is the way our eyes are used to travelling when working out a chain of events, or rather a chain of words in a book.

with arabs it is vise-versa because arabic is read right to left.

example

i suppose this could also be said for clocks. i'm guessing because we process circular information clockwise, because we've trained ourselves to do that at the early age when we first learnt to read a clock. if you imagine standing on the edge of the clock, facing inwards- towards grandma, clockwise is leftwards.

edit:
i think the most dominant influence will be they way people travel to regularly. im guessing a person who makes a regular journey, ie to work or school, where most of the turns are left, will choose the left route to go to grandma, since its what they're use to, and people who mostly do right turns will turn right to grandmas.

Well, Da Vinci was a lefty, and he wrote mirrored. Then there's the type of writing where you write 'as a plough' - i.e. from one side of the paper to the other, then down a line and back across the page again. I'm not sure it's so simple as what way we read.

Mind you - you may want to look in to the research that's already been done for supermarkets - there's a lot of 'what way people want to go around a shop' research that gets done.

I am a righty, turned right because last time I took a left, I got hit by a car Never turning left again

edit: I was walking left on a trail like that which you described and got hit by a car.

Yes, I'm very sorry, but most of the results didn't even go through right and I wasn't able to get enough data.

So, everyone just do what "Robot" did, put your answers here in a code snippet box.

No really, I would go the way that I hadn't gone before. Or maybe I would go the same way.. . The way that I first go wouldn't be decided by the fact that I'm right-handed.

Personally, I think this has no physcological or statistical bearing what-so-ever - it is an arbitrary decision, most likely leading to a arbitrary choice in direction (I just picked randomly; there was no logical element to my choice)

Thanks for the submissions guys Since I don't have a limit anymore we can just keep going for a while, well at least till monday when I need to be done collecting data. I've got to do a proposal and present it to the professor to see if I'm doing things correct or not. And I'm sure theres a lot more variables to this study, but it doesn't hurt to see if there is anything interesting here. I won't know until I've done it, thats the point. So, thanks for all those who have been participating, keep it up guys!
