OK,today i got this "Simple" task...

(I translated this quote from the paper)

Quote: "Chapter 5-Test

Now that you have finished these simple things in your language that you have chosen, here comes a more hard task, create a simple Online game,4 players minimum,Must be 3D.

Here is a list of what is required before starting:

1)A storyline
2)A 3D modeler(Models must be yours.)
3)A coding language

From here on you must plan your game further on,as for the story we do NOT accept story's that have a few lines.they must atleast have a full paper of A4 format frontside, backside optional.

When done planning and writing the story, you are REQUIRED to let us approve your idea's.from the moment we have approved your idea's you have 6 weeks to complete the game.(2 Hours a week, must be done in school.3D modeling may be done at home.)

We wish you luck,

The Technology Team(TTT)"

i havent started the story yet, however i got the planning done:

Quote: "1-Write the story
2-Think about 3D models required and make them.
3-Build a simple Online game framework for 2 players
4-Put in the 3D objects
5-let everything be tested 100%
6-Make a quest
7-Beta test
8-make a money system
9-Test again
10-Place an account save function
11-Test it
12-Make a chat
13-Test it 100%
14-Make a shop
15-Test
16-Make it 4 players,8 if system works seemless
17-Encrypt the save files so only the game can read them
18-Test
19-Release Game.(Show project)"

This whole thing sounds quite complicated, and well...it is.since i only got 10 Hours to work at the engine(I school hour is 50 minutes,so 12 school hours is 10 hours i guess)

Well,i never worked with such a short deadline for a game!does anyone think its crazymen's work?

Well...ill keep a WIP Log if i want to on these forums,as the language ive chosen is Dark Basic Pro.

Thats what i wanted to tell,im not happy with this...but well...its for school!

My arrival shocked some people maybe...but i dont seem to care anyway...behold my mights!

Is this for college or for high school? Programming an online game, especially considering the language, would be better suited for a final project or something larger. What languages do you have avaliable to use? That just seems so silly if you could use any language.

i have no idea how you call it over there, but here.you call it:

Middelbare School.

Its for Technology.i decided to take the game creation stuff on me.for every chapter we get explained what should do what(Not what the codes do...but what means what.like: Collision Detection : Determs if one object collides with another.but then more expanded)

Also,i have all languages to what i want...it may sound weird.but i think its cool!and since i know more of DBP then of C# ill use DBP...

However our teacher has set limits to languages.as they dont own everything...all he owns is:

-Delphi
-C#
-C++
-DBP(Dont ask me why,i asked him,he didnt answer me)
-Game Maker

That are my limits.but i know more of DBP with multisync then of the other languages.

And BTW,this is the last chapter of the first book.creating an online game, thats simple is meant to be the test.however...ill make it a little more complex then he wants

Hope this clears it up a bit.

You're allowed to use C++ or DBP? That doesn't make any sense at all to me. Creating a 3d, online game in C++ is hundreds of times the amount of work it is in DBP. It isn't even comparable.

Not really; I mean I assume its counting on them using ready-made libs. Irrlicht and Zoidcom make the grade quite nicely, and if you're a decent coder, it isn't that bad.

Also, nowhere on that task does it say the entire time allotted. I reckon a couple of months would be sufficient.

Yea, gcse IT is rubbish. Some of the teachers dont even no how to put a table in dreamweaver. I dont use dreamwever alot but if theres button saying insert table then i think i can work that out. But we rarley use dreweaver its to complicated for the teachers so we only use Excel

Notice that my Technology lessens, arent lessons i MUST follow.i have chosen to do so.so we always may use everything there is available, aslong as it gets done,TTT doesnt complain.

You have some valuable points.

An online game isn't a good choice for this type of project. I'd made a single player game. Perhaps for a later project you could develop it into a multiplayer game.

That's a pretty hard task, especially people starting with just c++ without using any 3d libraries like orge/irrilicht etc, and why must the game have a storyline? cause for 6 weeks you would expect to make at best, some sort of online puzzle game, or maybe poker, requiring a sotryline means it would need to be an action game of some kind, when I first read it I assumed you were asking us to help you make your own MMORPG , glad I was wrong, anyways good luck.

@Cash Curtis II - it has to be online. Read the first sentence TTT says.

@Dark Coder - He's using DBP...

@Prince Of Darkness - The best of luck to you and your project.

if i wanted to make my own MMORPG,i'd like to make it all myself

Thanks everyone,i know it sounds weird to let us use any language of those, however it isnt a game that must be high quality, they just want us to find out how Multiplayer works.however with multisync its a few lines and im done with the basic part
