what are the graphical diffrences between dbc and dbp as i heard that dbp uses direct x 9 wheres i believe dbc uses 8 so is 9 capable of makeing good graphics in smaller sizes as i find that to be the key componet as to why dbc can't use big graphical things like realistic humans becuase the file size is to large and slows down the game.

I'm not sure about DirectX but Pro is better all around... not just in the graphics.

If I were to upgrade to DBPro, how much work would I need to do to get a, say, 2000 line program written in DBC working in DBPro? Are there many language differences?

that greatly depends if it was 2d or 3d.

2d can change dramatically if sprites are involved.

3d is pretty similar

i would guess on average 15% code change at worst resort.

dbc still works fairly well but in terms of speed is dbp able to process things quicker?

I think dbpro is capable of better effects and stuff, but many don't use them (like shaders). My graphics are the same in dbc and dbp- just diffuse lighting, and your're still limited to the 8 lights. A lot of the stuff that dbp can do is dependent on having a fancy pants graphics card- like shadows and normal maps and things- which i don't have- and i don't want to get yet because other people don't either.

You do find you can shove in more objects and scenery and stuff before the game begins to chug though.

As for converting dbc to dbp projects, it's not that hard at all. I think the camera view command changed from degrees to radians or vice versa, and the rotations changed around abit, and you need to disable object zdepth for ghosted objects and a few more things, but i've had more trouble with version updates in the past.

You'll be able to click on this someday.

i dl'd the trial version just to check out dbp but it said that i need direct x ver 9 december or later so i went back to the site and went to direct x site then i find that direct x 9.c is 24 mb wheres i have dial-up and my best dl speed's are 3 kb/sec so i guess i'll have to say screw it for now and also my current comp is a 2005 computer and most people probable don't get a new computer for maybe every 2-5 years so it is more than likly better to go with dbc because it seems to work with current comp without you needing to dl any new stuff so it can make it funner for people with just a regular comp.

You don't need a new computer... you just need DSL.

Or you could use a download accelerator, such as Download Accelerator Plus.

a lot of servers frown upon download accelerators, with 56k you will find it might not do so well.
depends really how far out in the country you are as well.
