What did your school get? Just the development software, or Visual C++ 2005 with XDK 360 and a Development Box?

It could just be that you're getting XNA Game Studio, and a non-commercial license. Would be very odd that Microsoft would provide the Developer Kit and Developer Box for education purposes, but that said depends on the education budget.
