How can I make the characters shoot to annoy not to kill. My wife doesn't want the violence in the games I create for my children. Basically I have put together streets and their friends house but don't want blood and gore. But still want to enjoy the running around. If it was paintball or some other non-lethal weapon that would be great. I read another post where someone said they were going to do it and it would be easy but nothing ever came of it.

you can take out blood by going to the decals folder and deleting it.

you can also look in the huds folder to cange the getting shot screen it a splat of paint, not blood.

as for new gun models, you have to make them, or ask someone (with something in return most likely), or buy them.

For airsoft, I'd think you could set all enemy lives to infinite (or some very high number) and make the weapons cause the knock-down effect associated with shotguns or explosions. It would give a visual reward for scoring a hit without killing. The damage could be set low too. Enemies would be knocked down then get right back up.

Replace the fire sounds with the whiny gearbox noises an AEG makes and point to blank muzzle flash, brass and smoke types (if modifying an existing weapon). There is also a way to take the firespot and brass bones out via text editor if you don't want the yellow lighting effect.

The blood can be disabled through the character's .FPE. You could also make it so that sparks or another effect appears instead of blood. You would also want to change overlay that displayed on the screen when taking damage.

I'm sure you could also make the health hud not visible if your wife wants no indication whatsoever of dwindling health.

This is all pretty much theory but I think it's pretty sound. I don't know how things would differ in MP vs SP games with some of these suggestions.

I was going to say pretty much what he said, but you could get FPSC V 1.03, which I think lets you create and allocate your own material index's, so you could create a texture of a paint splat and assign it to the enemies, walls, everything! Unless you want multiple guns...

Maybe you need a nice clean cartoon game that everyone can enjoy. I've said too much...

You don't have to be insane to answer my questions, but it helps

I think it's great that you're making games for the kids. You can always make games were they have to find things, explore, figure out puzzles, move and stack things to get from point A to B, etc. Don't forget that you can throw things in FPSC too. A Nerf ball maybe?

If you use your imagination, there are many things you can make besides shooters.

Best.

ok a couple questions. Where do I find the fpe parameters, I looked all over the forums. I guess one of my real questions is beside sparks and blood what else can I do and how do I find out.

second question: How do you throw things?

I haven't messed around with changing the blood or bullet holes or any of that so I really don't know that one. But as for throwing things;

Left click to pick up dynamic objects. Aim with your mouse and right click to throw, or left click again to drop or place. The distance and damage can be adjusted in the objects properties by changing the objects weight and other properties.

Best.
