"Up others"? What does this want to say?

Artificial or forced languages are doomed to die, since languages are more than just a way to communicate. It's also a rather stupid idea to prevent languages from adopting too many loan words.

Through out the history, the political, economical or cultural power of certain nations have always had a tremendous impact on the languages of other nations. Greece, Rome, France- just to name a few.

While currently English is the most dominant language, this will certainly change in perhaps one or two or more hundred years from now. However, individual languages will survive only as long as they evolve; and that process includes the concept of accepting loan words.

I think that with global networking taking over, that a lot of languages maybe will merge into one.

This would only happen with languages that use the same alphabet. I can see, in a few hundred years, French adobting so much of English, that they could be considered dialects of the same language.

I know a lot of French people are worried about 'Franglais', which is why they make up new french words for stuff like 'Discman', even though every French person says 'Discman'.

Exactly, and that's not only France. But you can't force things like these.

I don't understand football, they didn't do a good job of teaching it, I mean I don't get how a light nudge can make a play tumble over and break their leg and make them scream in pain, its girly sport if I do say so, not like Rugby, instead you hug big sweaty men grabbing the other guy's ball(s)...Now thats a sport...Oh wait we were talking about language...ahem!

New universal languages have been tried before, and flunked. In the late 50's or early 60's I was imposed upon to learn a bit of Esperanto, which was one of them. It was no more successful in the U.S. then the metric system. Incidentally, although English has tons of irregularites, the one that the forum opened with (go - went) actually isn't one of them. The past tense of "go" has long been forgotten (although the perfect tense "gone" is still around), so English speakers merely use the past tense of "wend" instead, which is "went". "Go" and "went" are two entirely different words.

An episode of Stargarte mentioned a true universal language, in the form of a periodic table. Ok, so its more like a universal rosetta stone, but you get the idea.
I think I'm way off topic here.

Okay, can we just knock Americans instead? We English have to think we're better than everyone and mock them, otherwise we're not truly English, its our fault France makes people giggle.

Yes. I live in Pittsburgh. I am also a huge Steeler fan! I don't think I've missed a game in about 5 or 6 years.

In the andromeda series they had a universal language called 'common' which was english, having a universual language would certainly help when visiting other countries, but eventually the native language would just die out, and of course america and england woulden't want to learn any other language, so they would probably attempt to force every country to speak english .
