I think I only heard Cozy Powell in Brian May's song "Resurrection" (which is one of the best Rock songs I have _ever_ heard). What else would you advise me to listen to?

Quote: "Neil pearts"

Try as I might I just can't seem to bring myself to like Rush. I do like edgy prog music, and God knows a lot of people I know have tried to talk me into liking Rush. I even have their "Spirit of Radio" CD, but apart from a couple of songs it just won't click. I really abhor the guy's voice: it's just too 70's or something...

Ringo WAS great, he's still underrated as a drummer. Even George Martin says his timing spot-on (contrary to popular rumours). And being left-handed makes for some really interesting fills.

one arm? has to be the guy from def leppard. no?

that joey solo was him spazzing out on double bass in a throne... all straight rhythyms from what i remember, same with the travis solo. Mostly drumline stuff.

I actually thought Jordison's drum solo was decent, that's just me though.

EDIT: Well, I'd say he did good speedwise, wasn't too creative though.

Which one, Nick Mensa? Yeah, he's pretty good. Actually the "classic" MD lineup of Mustaine, Ellefson, Friedman and Mensa was cool. Pitty they flaked off during the last few years.

Countdown, yes that was Menza and the other 3. No, basically Menza left/got kicked out first, then Friedman. Then Mustain had some sort of tendonitis or somethign and they reckoned he would never play. So he went into hiatus for like a year or so and then came back with a pretty good album (the latest). Not before kicking Ellefson (which was with him since the 1st album) out...

the drummer for muse is pretty good... (i don't rate drummers by how fast they can play such and such polymeter beat, but by how good they sound with their band, i find solo drummers kind of distastefull, and show offy for the most part, although there are a few i've heard that i liked)

Are you guys ready for it? I'm going to disagree with Mattman's comment about Phil Selway from Radiohead... Ready? Sitting down? Bracing yourselves?

John Bonham from Led Zeppelin, by far and large, is my favorite drummer. He's followed somewhat closely by Keith Moon from The Who. Phil Selway is good, great in fact, but he's a bit of a machine, sort of a human metronome, and while I guess that's what every good drummer should aspire to be, Bonham had soul and Moon had style and in my humble opinion, those qualities haven't been matched by any other drummer I've ever heard. And Bonham could slap a single bass drum pedal faster and more accurately than most drummers can do with two pedals (or a double pedal). And the titan-like beats he forged were as good as they get, imo, especially in songs like The Immigrant Song and When the Levee Breaks. Moon wasn't as great technically, but he was outrageously fast and his style is legendary. Throwing a stick 20+ feet into the air and catching it behind his back, all while rolling with the other hand, and completing the rest of the roll while it was happening... that's just too cool for words

Matt Rock - I agree with your statement, except Phil's precision amazes me because it is the perfect fit for Radiohead. Bonham is close behind though.

PS- Muse's drummer I like too. Especially the last verse in "Time Is Running Out".

I agree, he's the perfect fit for Radiohead. And his surgical precision is seemingly unmatched, but on some songs, like Idioteque and Morning Bell (the Kid A version, not the Amnesiac Reprise), I thought it was a drum machine playing and I was pretty startled to learn it was actually Phil playing those hehe.

Ugh, I wish I knew. Phil, the guitarist from my last band, he worked it out as I remember, he had a Korg sitting around in our studio. I just e-mailed him to find out, so hopefully we'll find out relatively soon I can't remember but I think ateaseweb.net (might be wrong addy!) had it posted, but I can't even remember the actual url lol. I'll find out though.
