Hello! This is the start of a WIP thread on a 2D platformer I'm making. It's really too early to be done justice from screens, so here is an Early Gameplay video - http://www.lochnessfireplaces.com/vid1.wmv

And a screen for you too

Help wanted!

I'm looking for someone to do some 3d modelling for the game as my usual modeller (my brother) is indisposed. The main character is NOT going to be Dumbow, I'm just using her for the time being. I'm looking for someone to model me a new main character. Some points of note:

- Must be able to model a humnaoid character, and animate / texture it too.

- Provide models in .X DB friendly format.

- I have a decent back catalogue of completed projects and so anyone putting time into modelling for this game is not wasting there time.

Thanks very very very much in advance. If anyone could help me out, could they please email me at DrewC@ddrw.com or post here.

Look out for updates!

Cartoony, in much the style of the graphics seen above.

Do you have any examples of stuff you've done Wiggett?

Milk Paton is still in the works by the way, he'll be back before Christmas.

Looks cool Drew, I'd offer to hepl but I can't model to save my life Can I make a suggestion though? Use a prerendered background image on a plain for the background, maybe a few for parallax and it could like a lot better

Wow. Wow. Begin someone who makes platformers themselves, that looks very impressive so far.

I can model cartoony humanoids, and make cartoony textures for them if you want. But I'm not very good at animating yet, and not that good with teams, and I'm entirely not sure you could rely on me for the next one or two weeks... so if you want I could be sort of a last resort in that category.

I can model other things as well though, and much faster. My models are pretty low poly, and more stylish than anything. ...and I always export my models in direct x.

But I'm not one of the modelers of the forum any way you look at it. I think my models are good enough for my own projects, but have not modeled for someone else's before. So if you're interested, I'm willing, just cautioning you...

Dude, I can model all right but when it comes to animating, I'm your man Drew, if you want my help, maybe Bizar Guy and I could team up. He builds and textures 'em and I'll rig and animate them. I mean, if you want my help that is. I think it'd be so awesome to help you. I know this project will get finished. I cant remember how many projects I've helped out on but never finished...

Those screenshots do look nice. I unfortunately have no talent in modeling, but if you need help in anything else, holler at me.

He probably means you can only move horizontally and vertically. Gameplay-wise there's no 3rd dimention involved.

Looks awesome! The last platform was the best, and I really liked how the character slid down into the water. Kind of reminds me of the new super mario bros. Keep up the good work, this is starting out great.

Thanks in advance!

Basically this wee chap here my man. I'd love something like the main character from Bizar Guys Block Verse, mixed with the above. So like, the proportions and stuff of Bizar Guys' dude.

Thanks in advance!

I watched the video last night. I have to say that it's quite uber. I particularly like how he not only rotates according to the angle of the ground, but that he slows down or speeds up too.

Looking good. One might even say hot.

I got bored...

650 polys plus I'ma add an extra quarter sphere for the alpha-mapped hair. Drew, if you want to use this you can, if you still want me to only animate that's cool too...

Uploading another pic and all I put was a period and I get this message: TURN YOUR CAPS LOCK OFF all in red and stuff. That's dumb. I understand why but too assumptuous (sp?)

The crazy, that looks great! Could I be picky and ask you to make the hat a wee bit bigger.

It does look spot on though; could you maybe start off by doing me a run and a jumping animation and we can go from there?

Thanks mate.

Bizar Guy: would it be alright if I went ahead and used the crazies character seeing as how has already made it, and ask your help for the other models such as enemies etc...?

New screen.

Coins
HUD is basically there
Info points
First particles also in place.

Just waiting on the models now to really get a solid engine going! Now it's off to my driving lesson!

Sounds good. And more good news, I fixed the maya exporter like just now so I can export directly from maya! That means I won't have to animate in milkshape. (I'm much better at animating in maya) Anyway, good luck on your driving test. As for me, I'll be going to my rental house to film some green screen work

I dont wana intrude on The Crazy's work, its looking good. Just I've had a mesh laying around on my computer I made a while back, it looks a bit like you're picture. I worked with it a bit and came out with;

Its ~900 polygons, I dont have time to animate now (and probably wont ever :p), and it's not uv mapped, but if you want it Ill put up a download later tonight.

RUCCUS, that looks great but I hope you'd understand if I work with the crazies one since he asked first?

I hope this is okay: the above model does look great though and thanks for taking the time!

No problem, it was pretty rude of me to post it after the crazy had been working in the first place.

Goodluck with the game though, glad to see you chose to get back into the programming side of things .

Just a suggestion for your game; maybe have it when you jump on the platforms that are in the water, the platforms bob up and down a bit, like a bouyant object being dropped in the water. If you did that, you could get in a sort of super jumping system, where if the user jumps when the platform is at the peak of it's height, the user jumps higher than usual... If that makes sense :/

Not a problem dude. That's done in blender right? I love that renderer. Do you know what the actual renderer's name is? Or is it exclusive to that program?

[EDIT] I'ma start rigging and animation right now. Wish me luck (and I made the hat bigger)

[EDIT AGAIN] I've added some hair...

With the new model in. It's still early days yet, but hopefully you can see that it's coming along a bit. It also shows coin collecting, the Health bar etc... and info points in action.

The FRAPS ones? Use Studio 9 with Windows Media export.

Same codec / settings as I use for the Milk Paton Show: 28mb for 20 mins of video with near CD sound
