hey

I have been programming for a while now and i thought i might make a change and try my hand at musical composition.

My friend recommended Magix music maker to me as he really likes it, so i checked out their site and was very impressed but there is still a few things i would like cleared up for me

Are the virtual instruments any good, are the y accurate to the real thing or not??

And if anyone using these forums has used this software package before i would love your opinions

Plus if anyone has any recomendations of their own it would be much appriciated.

P.s I have used the search button before anyone asks

Cheers

BM

I have MMM 2005 deluxe (last years') and though I haven't used it extensively, am quite impressed with it. It's not a MIDI sequencer at heart though you can use the "piano roll" view when editing tracks that are assigned to VST instruments. On tracks where you use samples you can easily and visually edit fades and stuff. On tracks that use their proprietary virtual instruments, each come with their own editor which can go from a piano-roll thing (like the guitar and the piano) to a "lots of knobs and a small tracker" for things like the robota.

The virtual instruments are very good and sound good. The piano sounds very realisting though I think it's slightly low in sound. The guitar is convincing, and the effects that already come with it are good. It also comes with a couple of drums/rhythm boxes and synthetisers that produce fairly diverse rythms and soundscapes.

I especially like the "overall track" effects that you get (the ones that look like guitar pedals). In fact, the distortion one applied over a "clean" guitar, cranked to crunch produces a pretty good "hardrock lead guitar" sound.

I honestly believe this package is one of the best values around. Especially because I bought it new, still sealed, from eBay for £4.99! (from this vendor: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Us2u-Direct-Ltd ask him, he may be able to get more of you're interested)

I have vague plans for World Domination
