Hey, my HDD is filled to the very top, and I have nothing to get rid of anymore, so.. I need you geys to help me get one...yay... I'd like one in the 200 GB range (since I do a lot of HD video editing) and a decent/high RPM. I have a Compaq Resario SR1730T, P 4 3.6 Dual Core (don't know if thats important or not). It needs to work in sync with the one I already have of course.
Thanks for reading this to the end.
Torsten.

By help you get one, do you mean us giving you the money to buy one?

If your motherboard supports SATA2 then

http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/94403/rb/22976557617

would be good. Im not sure how much better a 10000 rpm HDD is better than a 7000 rpm one.

Oh and don't buy a maxtor

Seagate 7200.10 HDD, anyware from 250GB to 750GB. Faster burst data speed than a Western Digital Raptor, and almost as fast in continuous read speed, plus it's a lot cheaper

The fastest HDD around according to a major PC Pro test a while back is the samsung spinpoint series, their IDE UDMA/133 actually out performed most SATA150/300 models. The spinpoint isn't as expensive as the majority either.

Western digital is ok, but average and not great value for money.

DON'T EVER touch Maxtor, they have the highest HDD failer rate of any company.

3 of 4 harddrives in my system are WD and have been running fine for years, but I prefer Seagate.(especially scsi ones)

You can get a 320GB seagate sata2 for under $100.

Is that a Pentium D? Cause that's the only dual core cpu I could find running at that clock speed, aside from xeons and extreme chips.

No, it's a Pentium 4 3.06 Dual. Don't know how it works, but its what I ordered with my PC and its what Xfire picks up.

Yes, seagates are good reliable drives, and the speed isn't too bad either.

In the nineties i used to swear by seagate barracudas, nowadays i just buy whatever is comparible to price. all hard drives die in time, if there not raided for secure backup purposes, they are all a ticking time bomb in the making.

Digit article...

Flash solid state NAND disks are going to be the big news in the next year or so, when the bus speed is upped (to SATA2/SATA3) & the chip prices come down. These will eliminate the spin-up latency inherent in magnetic drives, as well as save a lot of power as no drive motor will be necessary. The UDMA66 model I've seen is already outperforming SATA HDDs in some tests. Anything you get now should be considered a stopgap for the longer-term technology.

I've been lucky with them & I have quite a few Maxtors.

I have an XP3000+, 1.5gb DDR333, a 6600GT and I'm programming 3k text-based exe's?!
