Okay i have a problem. I borrowed an external hard drive from a friend, and then while i was copying something i accidentaly switched it off. Now I cant access it, it only says your hard drive isnt formated do you want to format it now? Can anyone recommend any recovery software that can work with external hdds or another way of recovering the data? Thanks.

It sounds as if you're another victim of a rather stupid default for hard-disks inside of Windows:

As for recovery programs, I recommend looking on Seagates' website (look for 'Seatools') They work with any HD, and may have a tool to help you (provided Windows still recognises the disk as a HD)
