why make it so low poly? Make it detailed.
2000 poly count would be considered a very good job, but most PCs can easily take 3000+ polys for characters.

And remember, it will be almost impossible to animate such a low poly character without extreme stretching or tearing.

But yea, on a +ve note, even with such a low poly count...your model looks like a human

Thats looks like a great start. Have you given any thought to deformation for animation? I think you're going to have problems with the knees and hips from what I can see, at least deforming nicely. Its a very hard thing to do with low poly, and most models all have problems with the hips and shoulders.

Like your current poly count. You can really get away with more detail.

The mesh is layed out really bad, that will cause problems for uvmapping and animating.

th uv mapping would not be such a problem as i use bodypaint, but looking at it now i can see how it would be difficult to animate, well i guess thats why they invented the knife tool. and thanks filya, my last try looked like some sort of alien.

The tutorial linked above, is the kind I hate, because I like detailed steps on how to build them. Even though Ive had a few years experience, I am still not the best modeller and would love all the help I could get to improve, so tuts like this, are no help.

thats a good tut, but i dont like his style of modelling the body. i will use the head and hands parts, only problem is that the hands only have 3 fingers....

You don't have to copy the style exactly man.....More the methods, meaning 8 sided cylinders so from ever angle 4 faces are exposed to the uv mapper. The style is his own. I model things much more life like myself as not in to caricatures. And add another finger. If your looking for a tutorial that shows you making exactly what ya want that's great...but more then likely you'll need to adapt

Good luck
Loc

Edit: cross posted with you.
Those rings are whats going to screw ya man. when the joint at the hips and thigh bend you'll get movement down by the middle of the thigh. Try not to run long shards up and down its lenght and more in layers like a buildings floors.
