I think it needs some transparency around the edges, so it looks like the corners of the sign are actually round, without that white square border. I'm assuming you used Signs, right? The manual will show you how to add transparency.

Signs is a program that makes entities like this for you in about 10 seconds. It can be found here: http://www.fpsconline.com/

because the sign just simply owns. Just make it abit higher. Move it up in the model editor. If you used a modelling program to create it.

nice work AlanC, but like Luke314pi said it would look better if the corners were rounded and didn't have that white square backround. good work though!

Signs dosent have a rounded corrners base, and using one would add a minimum 16 polys/tris to a fluff eye candy type item thats only for looks.

I think ya did an OK job but I mean how much is there to cut and pasting an image. Could hanve made it much more worn looking by using that image as a referance for size and fonts and making your own. Plus im not sure of the legality of using an image of a goverment made sign.

When you made the texture pic couldn't you just add a layer mask to the corners so that they appear rounded.
The sign itself would still be square but the corners wouldn't show up in the game.
Just a thought.
Now I have to try it out...just when I thought I could take a break from Signs...lol.
And Locrian is right.
You might want to check on the legality of the sign.
Now I am going to see if I can make a sign with fake round corners.

I used the gimp to make the texture and used a layer mask on the corners and saved it as a .tga.
Then I used Signs IV to make it a wall sign and checked the transparancy option.
The attached pic is how it turned out.
The rounded corners look good. The sign texture may look like crap but it was a test sign and my intent was to try the round corners.

Lol....to hit on this subject,

Tonight I was watching some program on the History channel wile eating. It seems that 3m( the tape and glue manufacture) makes all the signs for the government(because of the reflective image adhered to an aluminum surface).

It may be who of you to search around and actually check the legality of them and it was odd how this thread and that show was on the same day. I take that as a "sign" to do some research.

@Fred
Only problem is fred you'd need to do that as a overlay and not a sign. If done as a sign, you'd be able to see "inside" the sign from the edge which produces a nasty look as people pass by.
