Hi all,

This isn't meant to be a flamewar, so PS3 and 360 fanboys can shut it

There's a good chance I'll be getting a Wii through work on Nov. 20th (fingers crossed!), and I would like to know which game I should get on launch.

I watched all 3.5 hours of the Gamespot Wii coverage where they played Super Monkey Ball, Zelda, Excite Truck, and Madden07, and I have to say Super Monkey Ball looks the most promising.

I should start off by saying I'm NOT interested in Zelda, or any game that is also on another system (Splinter Cell, Carbon, etc.).

Anyone else know which one looks the best? Red Steel?

Or would you wait and play the pack-in Wii Sports and maybe order a few games from its online retro service instead? I'm perplexed.

Here's a link with the list of launch games:

In your case, i would go for Red Steel or Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam(no idea if your into that sort of game at all). Or you could go for Call of Duty 3 except you said you don't want a game thats coming out on other consoles. Your call though. Have fun!

I'm getting Zelda, personally, but if I weren't then I'd stick with Sports and some retro games until the next wave of games. Red Steel looks interesting, but I don't 'need' it yet.

That's weird,

when you typed "OMFGzors ZelDAAR!!1!!!!11!!", it came out "I should start off by saying I'm NOT interested in Zelda".

Zelda, Mario and Red Steel look like very good strong games.
I've played Red Steel and Carbon on the Wii they have setup in the staff room where my lass works.

Red Steel takes some getting used to, as you move your view with your motion, the analog stick is used for movement and the screen sensor is used for detecting where you're aiming. Fantastic when you get used to it.

Carbon on the other hand, was totally pick-up and play. Motion controls the car's steering. B is the accelerator and A is break, then you have Nitro and Handbrake attached to the D-Pad.
Easier using the Logitech steering wheel but still more than possible to use with the wiimote itself.

This said they've also added legacy controls, so you can just pop-in a GC Controller or Wiitroller and play like you did in the classic NFS Undergrounds.

Want to try out Mario Galaxy, and Zelda also looks quite fun.

Wii sux, ps3 rules...

Just kidding, I'm no fan boy, don't worry, I won't bring that bollocks over here.

I think Zelda is something I'd go with to start, but I know I know, you're not interested, so I think Red Steel as well, I mean grabbing games that make good use of the controller is always good to start with I should thing, I mean so you can look like a fool in front of the TV like the people in the adverts.

Thanks for the ideas, everyone.

@Raven - Kinda hard to believe Carbon is at your girlfriend's work, when the Wii port is not out yet. They always sell them on release at the store at work Mario Galaxy, unfortunately, is not a launch title.

Regardless, I still think I will go for Super Monkey Ball, Red Steel, or perhaps I'll just wait for better titles. The Wii will most likely not go down in price for a looong time, so I won't regret a launch purchase

My girlfriend has a PS3...Which is harder to believe, me having a girl friend or somebody having a PS3? Well...the answer is obvious, but don't say it, it'll break my heart...

Well, the Gamespot crew played it for almost an hour, and it was a real snooze-fest. Arbitrary puzzles--- annoying, really. Plus I've never been a fan of RPGs.

How about this time you actually admit to lying?

That would be cool.

Besides the fact that last time I looked, they hadn't even gone Alpha, and didn't have a fully playable build

EDIT: Well it seems I looked quite long ago, as they have in fact now got a playable demo

I don't know of any shops in the UK getting Wii's yet anyway...

Seems a bit pointless and dangerous, sending them out really early, just so the staff can crack open one of the boxes for the staff room!

Oh well, I suspect that will be the last we hear from Raven in this thread, as is the normal procedure.

Raven stop lying it doesn't make you look big

It's on one of the two Kiosks that the guy from Nintendo set-up last week, but given it's not comming out for the next 3weeks they're kept in the staff room.

Game (here) got the stock for all of the pre-ordered consoles.
They don't have any of the games yet though.

No.

Definately not.

They will put those things out AS SOON AS THEY GET THEM. The demo sets are absolutely vital to selling the Wii.

So they're waiting till launch to put them out?

How the hell should I know, but somehow I doubt it.
Game in Chesterfield didn't have the Xbox360 Kiosk setup until the day the 360 went on sale.

I do know that the store my lass works in (and there's 3 in this area) they've reached their pre-order limit last friday. So they don't really need them to sell more, cause they can't sell any more until release restock.

More over, it could be a fact that there are limited numbers of Nintendo engineers going over the UK setting up a Kiosk in each store; readying them either for the Wii release or whenever Game want them to display them. Dunno if that's the reason, but personally never really cared to question my lass about why it's there.

The game I'll most likely be getting when the Wii launches is 'Flight Simulator X'.

I have an XP3000+, 1.5gb DDR333, a 6600GT and I'm programming 3k text-based exe's?!

I am a big fan of the super monkey ball franchise, I think Marvel Ultimate Alliance looks cool, saw some video on G4 of someone playing it and using the controller like a web shooter for spidey.

I watched the game spot special last Friday, and I do agree Zelda was a snooze fest, but that was just the slow beginning in what I am sure is a fun and expansive game. However, Super monkey ball looked like it could get rather boring rather fast (Especially the red light green light game). However, assuming I'm lucky enough to get my hands on a wii, Ill be getting Zelda, Red Steel, and perhaps Excite Truck. Was it just me or did Excite Truck look like innovative funness?

Back by unpopular demand!
Battle Legacy has gone MMORPG! Nah, Im just kidding. But seriously, check the WIP

The only launch game I'm getting is zelda. Not because I'm not interested in any of the others, but it's the only one I can seriously see myself playing not just for the novelty of the controller. I was considering Rayman 4 (and still am slightly), but I'm really annoyed that it's just a bunch of mini games... I LOVE Rayman platformers, and that's what I was looking for.

Oh yes, and of course get Wii Sports.

Oh, btw, watch vids where they show zelda farther into the game. It becomes much more interesting. Of course though, you may not find the prospect of 70 hours for even the most skilled players the first time through enticing, but to me that means I'll never get bored with it as I'll probably wont finish for at least a year.
Also, now that I'm getting a Wii, I'm looking forward to Windwaker, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Link to the Past, and the Legend of Zelda.

So far, all my zelda experiences have been handheld, and I haven't played a zelda game I didn't like.

Thanks for the info, guys. I'm reconsidering Zelda as a good investment, as like you said it would take me ages to complete.

And I just found out today that I can get the Wii on November 20th, so I'm pretty excited about it now

Red Steel looks cool, but in the same breath the novelty of it might wear off fast. I'm really looking forward to WarioWare and Mario Galaxy--- just wish one of them was for launch

Not really a double post-- but kinda. Sorry

I've been reading about Zelda and the likeliness it will take a seasoned Zelda veteran as long as 70 hours to complete the game (Bizar stated that too). I think now it will be worth the money.

That being said, I might not get any launch title and just play Wii Sports and Mario 64 until more games are released (WarioWare Games and Mario Galaxy for starters). I'm not in a rush to buy games to get good launch console price value, as the console will NOT go down in price for a while.

I was thinking about quitting console gaming, but when I heard the Wii controller was a motion sensor, I changed my mind, I'll probably buy one around Christmas.

Same for me. Wait for more games to come out first, to see if developers can make a bunch of solid games for a new system. Some of the Wii games don't seem to be doing to well (i.e Red Steel got a 5.5 Mediocre on Gamespot).

Zelda and Call of Duty 2 for me. I was considering Red Steel, and might get it later on. But I'm really looking forward to playing Super Smash Bros Brawl; the play time i got out of it's predecessor is ridiculous.

Has anyone mentioned Zelda yet? If you really don´t want that game then just play wii sports until the demos come out on wii live or whatever they call it. If there are any demos that is.

Heh, almost everyone's mentioned zelda.

I won't be getting one for a while. I REALLY want one now, I just don't have the time to use it atm. I was thinking about getting one now and just keeping it in the box for a while, but I knew how long it would stay in the box. Two minutes. Then I'd be all over it...

Jeku, I own Zelda for the Wii and it is much better than GameSpot says, it is very intuitive and enjoyable. That said, as you're not a fan of such a genre I would go for Excite Truck, Monkey Ball, possibly Red Steel (have to wait till I get my hands on to see who to agree with on quality) and Downhill Jam (that game surprised me with how fun and intuitive it is).

Thanks guys. I picked up Zelda on Sunday from the store (the last copy) based on reviews, even though I'm getting the Wii tomorrow from work

I also picked up Viva Pinata for the 360--- surprisingly one of my favourite games this year.

It's in the new issue, the one with PS3 on the cover.

Its not out properly yet, we got it at work early for some reason, probably subscribed I don't know...

The Zelda review is massive, like 4 or 5 pages.
