Iam trying to create a kind of glass effect, using grey alpha channels in PSP 9. I either get a soild colour, or nothing shows up. Ive attached the tga iam using.

Could any one tell me what Iam doing wrong, or if I have to do some thing in FPSC to get it to work.

Higgins, I think your problem may be that you dont have your entity set to Dynamic and IsImmobile. I assume your talking entities here. Hope this helps.

So how exactly did you get it to work?
Cause I tried a whole lot of things without success.

And in this thread : http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=93121&b=24
rolfy explained to me that I would have to use shaders to make it work

So if this is possible without shaders, pls tell me how.

Thanks

First of, you need to know how to make grey alpha channels, then you just do what Nik told me. Simple.

ohhh...so I have to make the entity dynamic and mobile to have it work

But making all those things dynamic and mobile will take too much processing time. Is there no working around it?

It would be good to have various transparency levels for all the things in game (be it static/dynamic entities or even segments for that matter).

NEways, thanks a lot.

@Filya, I suggested the shaders because you were using a 3d cylinder object, if you had used the above method I think you may have had problems with displaying the opposite faces.

@rolfy
Oh ok, I get it now. And I really appreciate you helping me out there.

You know, FPSC should make this less complicated

Alpha channel for a texture works only if :
1. Object is an entity (not a segment)
2. Object should be dynamic (not static)
3. Object should be mobile

Now really, what does being dynamic and mobile have anything to do with a texture?? lol

But guys, thanks for all your help.

Although, if anyone of you can find out how to have a translucent look to a texure without crashing my framerate (I intend to have a lot of those 'lantern' objects in game!) please do let me know.

Thanks again,

filya
