I don't believe it. Really, if I had 100 mil, I'd go insist that the owner of Sony hands me one personally.

There's an old saying that some people have to much money and too little sense - but nobody has that much money and that little sense!.

Someone is having fun with these people there is no way any of those bids, except perhaps the $150,000 for some insane moron, are real. Likely since sony says they did not want this to happen they talked to ebay and are allowed to get away with moronic bids so no one else will bid and not have to pay. Come on for 20 mil you could open up your own darn store and have preordered and sold them yourself.

Doesn't matter what they bid. Sony have a deal with eBay to prevent auctions for the Playstation 3.

This will get taken down soon enough.

Wow, that auction has already ended for some $89 Million? I would believe an eBay newbie would bid up that high just for laughs, but the winning bidder has been around since 2001 and has 100% positive feedback (120+ transactions) so far. What a great way to sacrifice their account because I know eBay does suspend accounts for malicious bidding practices. Who knows, maybe he actually intends on paying that much, lol.

I've seen the PS3 going for as much as $9k on EBay, but seriously, I'm willing to bet that with $20k, someone could just buy a PS3 off of even the most hardcore "I-waited-in-line-since-monday-and-all-I-got-was-this-lousy-preorder-receipt" Sony Fanboy.

Quote: "Sony have a deal with eBay to prevent auctions for the Playstation 3"

Not exactly. EBay's rules regarding the PS3 state that you can sell a PS3 online, but only if you have photographic evidence of a pre-order receipt, if not the console itself, like this guy, taking advantage of someone for $5,000. It's scary how insane people get over the PS3 and how much they're willing to spend on it (don't turn this into another "I hate the PS3 thread." There's too many of those already )

Edit: Woops, nevermind. Someone bid up the $6,700 on the PS3 I linked to above within the last few minutes of the bidding. INSANE!

I seem to remember folks handing over thousands on eBay for what was labeled an "X-Box Box" - and they ended up getting an empty shoe box with the letter 'X' written across it in marker. Ah, good times

there's a guy in our local town who got in the newspaper for selling a ps3 reserve ticket for over $900 (means you have one in the store reserved for you)

come on. how immature do you have to be to spend $900 more than usual, just so you can get it maybe a month or two early?

makes me want to hit whoever bought the ticket over the head with a two-by-four

I never thought the bids were real. I was just saying that the existance of the bids was real. I know that they wouldn't go through. But it's still hilarious. Although I'm willing to bet the 7000-9000 bids were real and went through.

$7000-$9000 is pretty normal for the PS3 (at first glance without any number crunching whatsoever, I'd say the average PS3 presale on ebay is going for $5k to $9k). It's also pretty sad. I want a PS3 really bad, but $5000 bad? Or even $800 bad? Not a chance. I'll wait a few weeks and get it at a normal price, thank you I don't really understand why people do this, either. What's the big deal? I feel like asking these people, you had your Playstation for a week or two longer than I had mine... your point is what? Like, what did you accomplish there? You saw the ending of Resistance before I did? Oh no, how can I live on? Oh, right, $5000 richer than you!

I blame this all on cabbage patch kids. As for the ebay/ps3 thing I thought they were also not allowed to accept international bids, only those in the US and Canada.

Forgot about that rule. I think there was another rule too, but I can't remember what it was. I could be wrong though.

Parents are INSANE about getting stuff for their kids, and that contributes to this psychotic behavior when new stuff gets released. Remember the hundreds of injured people around the world in the mid-90's when "Tickle Me Elmo" was released? It's the "Women in line at the shoe store" mentality, especially with new consoles. Billy spent all year talking about the Wii60station (like my fictional console name? It's like 360, but "we" 60! I'm so clever!), so mom and dad, in fear that their kid will cry, are fighting to the death to get their system before they're all sold out. I say screw Billy! Make the brat get a paper route!

now thats die hard fan boy politics in action.
companies in the future will hold stocks on the InsaneFanBoy index.

a twist to purchasing power
the more people you gather into a purchasing group the cheaper it can be. if we formed a co-operative of purcchasers and solicited large scale volume sales for the cheapest price, it can reduce the price.
Ive seen the principle work before here in Oz with memberships to purchasing group advocates.

So with my efforts to convert people to the Sony fanbase, does that make me a fanboy lobbyist? heh that's cool

chances are someone signed up with a few accounts, posted an advert because they where bored, made insane bids, then pretended to send himself or herself a cheque. I bet that wasn't carried out via paypal!

How many people in the world could even afford to spend tens of millions of dollars on a PS3? Six? Seven? We know for a fact Bill Gates isn't shopping for Sony products

I'm sure the boys at Microsoft already have a few PS3s and Wiis. They need to study the competition, after all

I wonder if anyone's ever been fired for "studying the competition" a bit too much, hehe.

LOL Kenjar that would be funny. Could you imagine if Ken Kutagari's kid was a huge 360 fan, and Gate's kid was a huge PS3 fan? That sort of irony would truly make my day.
