This is a project I've been working on and off since last May/06. It comes with a multiplayer launcher so that you can see at a glance if anybody is hosting the game. You can also enter a custom IP address so that people with dynamic IP addresses can also host a game. I plan on having additional levels that could be installed as add-ons. The included level is really nothing special, since it was put together just to test out the workings of the multiplayer launcher concept. I tried to make it fun, but we will see.

Get it here:

EDIT: Changed download link to filefront.com instead of uploading.com.

The download link won't work for me

How did you do the launcher thing to host/join like that? I assume that DBP looks up games and tells FPSC to join one, but how?

hmmmm... I just tried it and it worked for me. Are you getting a "page not found" error or something else?

Quote: "How did you do the launcher thing to host/join like that?"

I have my own online database for my games which can only be run from the launcher, but I still use TGC's server list in-game at least for now. (Yes, joiners have to re-select the host once they're in-game)

Oh, I changed the file host to filefront.com in my original post. I didn't like the way uploading.com was doing things.

Quote: "Great, what I see! I want the TGC list for my Omaha Beach. Where I find it?"

You can only find it with my game, and the launcher doesn't show TGC's list. You will see TGC's list in the game as you do now though. The launcher just says "Johny's going to host a game called SciFiDemo, so I'll put his name in my database so every one can see it, and then I'll start up FPS-game".

The forum provides a means to hide our true identity. Too bad we always screw up and let it be seen.

Okay, I'll leave the choice up to those who wish to try it out. I just didn't like the way uploading.com bypasses your pop-up blocker and then sometimes the pop-ups tell you that you have a security problem and must install their software. If you just ignore that, you're okay.

Download from filefront.com:
http://files.filefront.com//;6206687;;/

Download from uploading.com:
http://www.uploading.com/files/RABXS24R/MFA_Install.exe.html

Thanks for trying it out!

No, I'm very sorry! Could you tell me what the name of the file is?

Or anyone else with this problem?

Thanks,

Important Update: The launcher itself now automatically detects your correct internet IP address. This simply means that more people will be able to host their own multiplayer shoot-outs by just launching the game and clicking on the "Host" button!

Go to the MFA Web Page where you can find the original game and the update. There's also a link to a website where you can get add-on levels.

Have Fun!

Ah,this doesnt seem to work on the real host,as well.If host is pressed it will just send a message trough the VB thingy.so it is just a simple plain wrapper wich "fakes" the hosting list.

Anyway,it looks good.Should try something similar with Core Map once.(If people like this sytem only.)

@jantteri FIN: I'm guessing DBP.

looks great, is it just for your server; or is it customizable?

Yay I got FF XII, and it totally rocks! Love the new battle system

Actually, the launcher was made with Multimedia Fusion 2. But I had to modify the FPSC source code to 'hook' the launcher into it, which required DBP. It also utilizes PHP and MySQL for keeping track of the hosts online.

Quote: "looks great, is it just for your server; or is it customizable?"

Unfortunately, everything is hardcoded to use my own database.

Oh, if anyone has a nice MP level that they created with FPS Creator V1.00 that I could convert to a plug-in level, and distribute for MFA, please let me know.

Sorry, but it only shows games that are in my database, which would be "SciFi Demo" which comes with it, and any add-on levels that I create. There are a couple of add-on levels available at Pietrow Games

When you install an add-on level, it will be added to the drop-down list. There are a couple of add-on levels available at Pietrow Games

Anybody can host (and be in the list), but they are limited to hosting the level that comes with it or any of the available add-on levels.

So the launcher never came up? Did it freeze or close or give an error code/message?

I can't think of anything, except that you must be connected to the internet before you start the launcher, otherwise the launcher will hang. But you can simply close the launcher (Double click on the window's icon or click the 'X') and try again.

Hy Scottie...This game could really be famous if you could update it and stuff and make it flawless..once people actually play it.they would like it..and regarding your patch updates...i can help you with that..i have the ability to create an update server directly for your game on the other persons computer...this will help with your patch updates alot...infact the clients wont need to go anywhere to download it ..they just open the update serrver and it checks for all available updates..pretty cool..let me know if you need it

Thanks for the offer Fps Freak! But, I'll have to pass for now. I will not be doing anything more with MFA until TGC releases a recent version of the source code. (Version 1.01 is somewhat dated and the levels need to be created with FPSC V1.00.) At that time I will also do some work on the launcher.
