Does anybody remember mage knight? that game that was simpler than d&d and could do much bigger battles and was very competitive to make lotsa lotsa money? remember storm golemn and necromancer, and TEZLA???
if the game wasn't already amazing enough-- i was awesome, by the way
the makers of mage knight decided to step it up a notch. they ended up falling down stairs.

2.0 was released, with new characters with incredebly complicated moves which was annoying AND (the worst part) they gave everybody guns!!! the game was no longer a pitted battle between the necropolis and the knights immortal battling over a village but the two players sitting aiming guns at eachother, not having fun at all!!! the whole concept was dumb. even though you would think that more detailed and complicated characters would be good, it wasnt!

then they just released the video game which i heard was crappy-just another attempt to help a dying product. dont you think? MAGE KNIGHT IS DEAD, all because of 2.0

take out the guns and bring it back to rebellion and lancers and we might have something... sigh....

so did any of u guys ever play that??? what do u think bout 2.0??? what went wrong???

From what I have seen a few things killed Mage Knight.

1) They made a commitment to their players when the game was released that there would never be a (limited) format, in other words you would always be able to use any figure you owned. However official tournaments switched to a new format with 2.0 knocking twenty or so of the best pieces (some that people payed good money for) from tournament play.

2) They concentrated much more on Heroclix.

3) D&D came out with far better sculpts and better quality figures with D&D miniatures. Mageknight/Heroclix had a good system but people got tired of spindly little figures that snapped off their bases all the time.

I still see alot of the single figures in the 10 for a dollar bins but almost no where carries unopened boxes anymore unless they got stuck with a bunch.
